In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished 1 mosque and 1 agricultural structure, and uprooted 60 olive trees in Duma. 7 Palestinians were arrested, including 5 during house raids in Idhna, Abu Dis, Beit ‘Anan, al-Jib, Bayt Jala, and ‘Urif; 1 was arrested at the Container checkpoint. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces stormed the Dome of the Rock to prevent electric work from carrying out. Israeli forces also delivered evacuation and demolition notices to 10 Palestinian families living in 1 building in al-Tur. 1 Palestinian was arrested during a late-night raid in the Old City. The Intercept, +972 Magazine, and Local Call jointly published an article based on a leaked 74-page Israeli-made dossier presented to European countries in May that purport to show evidence that the 6 Palestinian rights organizations deemed terrorist by Israel defense minister Benny Gantz on 10/22 are linked to the PFLP. The reporting was also based on hundreds of pages of leaked summaries from interrogations by the Shin Bet and Israeli police of 2 Palestinian accountants who are the basis of the dossier against the 6 NGOs. The 2 accountants never worked for any of the organizations and allegations against the 6’s connection to the PFLP was based on hearsay and testimony that 1 of the accountants had seen receipts used for PFLP activities like cultural events. The fact that the allegation of financing was for cultural events was omitted by Israel in the dossier. The EU alluded to the dossier in a statement from last week where it said past allegations against the organizations were never substantiated. In the West Bank, Israeli forces opened fire at 1 Palestinian vehicle at a checkpoint near Jenin, puncturing its tires; no injuries were reported. Israeli forces also delivered demolition notices for 8 Palestinian-owned homes in Duma. 11 Palestinians were arrested during raids in Abu Dis, Kaubar, Dheisheh refugee camp, Jenin, Hebron, and Nablus. In East Jerusalem, 4 Palestinians were arrested during raids in Issawiyya and al-Tur. In Gaza, 2 rockets fired from the strip landed in the Mediterranean Sea, after which Israeli aircraft fired 1 missile at al-Qarara and 3 missiles at al-Shuka, damaging agricultural lands; no injuries were reported. Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with Jordanian King Abdullah II in Amman to discuss the Palestinian elections scheduled for May and July. According to Haaretz, the 2 countries have been asked by Palestinian leaders to help facilitate the parliamentary and presidential elections. PA prime minister Mohammed Shtayyeh also said that the PA has asked Israel to allow Palestinians in East Jerusalem to participate in the elections. (HA, TOI 1/18)

The WHO voiced concern about the unequal distribution of COVID-19 vaccines in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories. The head of the WHO in the occupied Palestinian territories Dr. Gerald Rockenschaub said that the WHO has been in contact with Israel, trying to get the country to distribute vaccines to front-line workers in the occupied territories. Israel has boasted about its successful vaccination campaign, claiming the highest rate per capita, but has as of late come under international media scrutiny for not shouldering its responsibilities as an occupying power by distributing vaccines among its occupied population. A 3d mbr. of the Dawabsha family succumbs to injuries sustained in the Israeli settlers’ arson attack on her Duma home on 7/31 (her husband and 18-mo.-old child were also killed), sparking Palestinian demonstrations across East Jerusalem. Israeli forces violently disperse them in Silwan, al-Tur, and Wadi al-Juz, injuring 2 Palestinians. Meanwhile in the West Bank, Israeli forces assault 3 Palestinians outside a settlement nr. Hebron, moderately injuring them. IDF troops conduct late-night house searches and raids in al-Fawar r.c. and nr. Hebron and Jenin, arresting 3 Palestinians; patrol nr. Salfit, Qalqilya, and Hebron. On Gaza’s border e. of Jabaliya r.c., Israeli forces arrest 2 Palestinians attempting to cross into Israel for work. Meanwhile, the Egyptian authorities partially open the Rafah border crossing, allowing a number of Gazans to cross through for Hajj (they will open the crossing again on 9/8 and 9/9). On the Gaza border, IDF troops e. of the Gaza Valley arrest 3 Palestinian youths attempting to cross into Israel for work. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers throw firebombs and stones at a home in Duma, the same village where settlers set fire to a home on 7/31, killing an 18-mo.-old Palestinian child; there are no serious injuries. Later, IDF troops violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international protesters marching in a village nr. Nablus, another nr. Qalqilya, and outside al-‘Arub r.c. nr. Hebron in solidarity with the victims of the 7/31 arson attack, after a 2d victim succumbs to his injuries; there are no serious injuries. The IDF also conducts late-night raids and house searches in Hebron, arresting 1 Palestinian; patrols during the day in 2 villages each nr. Ramallah and Hebron, and 1 nr. Jericho. In response to poor conditions, 28 Palestinian prisoners in Israel’s Ramon and Eshel Prisons join the mass open-ended hunger strike that began on 8/5, bringing the number of participants to 148. Meanwhile, the UN releases a statement expressing concern over the new Israeli law, adopted on 7/30, that allows for the force-feeding of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike. Overnight in the West Bank, 4 Jewish extremists set fire to 2 Palestinian family homes in the village of Duma, nr. Nablus, killing an 18-mo.-old child and severely injuring the 3 other mbrs. of his family (the father and mother will succumb to their injuries on 8/8 and 9/7, respectively). The extremists leave price-tag graffiti nr. the site of the attack. IDF troops violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international protesters at demonstrations against the Israeli occupation and the morning’s arson attack in 6 areas nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Nabi Salih, Jalazun r.c., Silwad, and outside Ofer Prison) and Kafr Qaddum nr. Qalqilya; 4 Palestinians are injured. They also violently disperse Palestinians gathering in Hebron and 1 village nearby to protest the morning’s arson attack, injuring 6. In the evening, clashes break out at Atara checkpoint nr. Ramallah, and Israeli soldiers shoot a Palestinian in the back, critically injuring him (he will succumb to his injuries on 8/1). During the day, Israeli forces patrol in 5 villages nr. Hebron and 1 each nr. Qalqilya and Ramallah; assault a Palestinian driver at a checkpoint nr. Nablus. An Israeli settler rams a Palestinian firefighter with a car while he is putting out a fire nr. Hebron. Israeli settlers also damage 35 olive tree seedlings nr. Ramallah. Elsewhere, a Palestinian opens fire on an Israeli vehicle nr. Ramallah, causing damage. Late at night, unknown assailants throw a molotov cocktail at a Hamas leader’s car in Jenin. IDF troops on the Gaza border e. of Bayt Lahiya open fire on a small group of Palestinians approaching the border fence to protest the morning’s arson attack nr. Jenin, killing 1 and moderately wounding another. In East Jerusalem, the Israeli authorities bar men under 50 from entering Haram al-Sharif in the wake of the morning arson attack. Clashes break out across the city, with Israeli forces firing rubber-coated metal bullets at Palestinian protesters in Shu‘fat r.c., Issawiyya, Bayt Hanina, al-Suwana, al-Tur, and Silwan; 2 Israeli police officers and 13 Palestinians are injured, including 1 seriously. Meanwhile, unknown assailants throw rocks and firebombs in the Old City, injuring 1 Israeli police officer. An Israeli settler rams a Palestinian with a car in Ras al-Amud, injuring him.
