Also, IDF troops violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international protesters at weekly demonstrations against Israel’s separation wall, settlements, and occupation in 4 villages nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Nabi Salih, Nil‘in, and Wadi Fukin), and 1 village nr. Qalqilya (Kafr Qaddum). There are no serious injuries. At an anti-occupation protest in Silwad nr. U.S. and Iranian officials meet for a 2d day of talks in Geneva, with the teams led by Dep. Secy. of State William Burns and Under Secy. of State Wendy Sherman, and Iran’s Dep. FM Abbas Araghchi, respectively. Separately, a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) leaked to the press says that Iran has failed to address concerns about suspected atomic bomb research. Iranian and U.S. officials meet in Geneva and hold their 1st official, bilateral talks since the beginning of the Vienna negotiations between reps. of Iran and the P5+1 powers on 1/20. Attended by Iran’s Dep. FM Araghchi along with U.S. Dep. Secy. of State William Burns, and Under Secy. of State Wendy Sherman, the discussions are intended to overcome the impasse reached in Vienna and make it possible to reach a comprehensive agreement by the 7/20 deadline. The 5th round of talks is scheduled to begin on 6/16. Araghchi tells Iranian media that it is “too early to judge whether an extension will be needed.” (AFP, AP, HA, REU 6/9)

U.S. National Security Adviser Susan Rice arrives in Jerusalem and holds a meeting with Israeli PM Netanyahu to discuss the Iranian nuclear issue. She also meets Pres. Shimon Peres, and Israel’s National Security Adviser Yossi Cohen. Rice travels with a team that includes U.S. Under Secy. of State Wendy Sherman. Representatives of Iran and the P5+1 countries begin talks in Vienna to try and reach a comprehensive deal on Tehran’s disputed nuclear program. The P5+1 countries include the U.S., UK, France, China, Russia, and Germany. Bilateral talks between senior U.S. and Iranian officials take place on the sidelines. Hebron at night; conducts house searches and arrest raids in al-‘Arub. r.c. nr. Hebron in the afternoon. Jewish settlers destroy around 100 olive trees in Wadi Yanun nr. Nablus. Separately,settlers assault a Palestinian in the village of Turmus ‘Ayya. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolish 3 Palestinian homes in Bayt Hanina, Sur alBahir, and Jabal Mukabir, and compel another man to demolish his own home, leaving 28 homeless. The Jerusalem municipality approves plans for 558 new housing units in East Jerusalem settlements Har Homa, Neve Ya’acov and Pisgat Ze’ev.
