Unidentified gunmen reportedly fire across the Jordanian border into Israel, n. of Beit Shean, wounding 2 Israeli border patrolmen. The assailants then fire on, throw grenades at IDF soldiers who respond to the scene, killing 1 IDF soldier, wounding 2. IDF helicopters strafe the border area and no-man's-land, killing 2 gunmen, entering Jordanian territory only after obtaining the permission of the Jordanian security liaison. No group claims responsibility. Amman denies the gunmen are Jordanian, saying there is no proof they infiltrated fr. the kingdom.
