Pres. Clinton announces that Arafat, Barak will come to Camp David, MD, on 7/11 to hold 3-way summit on final status issues. Talks are expected to end before Clinton leaves for a G-8 mtg. in Japan on 7/19. U.S. officials say that the PLOCC's 7/3 "threat" to declare a state as of 9/13 influenced Clinton's decision to hold the summit now. In London, PM Barak urges British PM Tony Blair to press Arafat not to declare unilaterally a Palestinian state. Barak then leaves for Paris to hold similar talks with French pres. Chirac. (CNN [Internet], MM 7/5; MM 7/6)

Arafat invites the Palestinian opposition parties to accompany the PA delegation to the Camp David summit, participate on the sidelines. Hamas, the PFLP decline. Arab World: Egypt's Pres. Mubarak arrives in Amman for first Arab state visit by an Egyptian leader since Camp David agreements.

Other Countries: In Washington, US Pres. Reagan promises emergency aid to Israeli PM Peres in case of balance of payments crisis.

Military Action

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Several injured & 16 youths arrested in unprovoked Israeli police attack on Taibeh village during general strike there in expectation of MK Kahane's visit; 8 youths released because of their young age; Village Council issues protest letter to police chief Bar Lev.

Arab World: UNRWA reveals IDF has blocked food & medical supplies to refugees in S. Lebanon for nearly 3 weeks, and now has broken agreemento lift blockade.

Occupied Palestine/Israel: PM Peres says Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon no longer contingent upon simultaneous Syrian withdrawal.

Arab World: Jordan and Egypt announce resumption of full diplomatic relations; US and Israel claim the move is a victory for Camp David process; Syria and Libya denounce it, call for boycott of Egypt.
