In the West Bank, Israeli settlers assault a Palestinian family and steal their olive harvest in Yasuf. Israeli settlers also pave a settler road east of Minya. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers vandalize olive trees in Burqa. Israeli forces shoot and kill a Palestinian man near Dayr Sharaf, claiming he tried to stab soldiers. Israeli forces also fire tear gas at Palestinians during a raid in al-Khader.  Meanwhile, Israeli forces arrest 15 Palestinians during raids in and around Hebron, Ramallah Qalqilya, Nablus, Salfit, and Jerusalem. In Gaza, Israeli forces bomb Rafah, Dayr al-Balah, Khan Yunis, Gaza City, Beit Hanun, Nuseirat refugee camp, and Jabalia refugee camp. The Gaza Health Ministry says Israel has killed 62 people in the past 2 days. Israeli forces also forcefully displace 130 families from Beit Hanun, forcing them to flee south. 4 Israeli soldiers are killed in Gaza. In Lebanon, Israeli forces bomb Beirut, Joun, Baalchmay, Tefahta, Maydoun, Shamsthar, Roumine, Yater, and Zebqin, killing at least 78 people. Israel reportedly uses phosphorus shells in the attacks on Yater and Zebqin. Israeli forces also issue evacuation orders for 14 villages in southern Lebanon, telling residents to flee north of the Awali River. Hezbollah forces fire rockets at Israeli military bases near Tel Aviv and Nahariya, killing 2 people in Nahariya. More than 43,665 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, including at least 17,385 children and 11,487 women, and around 103,076 have been injured since 10/7/2023. At least 10,000 people are missing in rubble. 783 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since 10/7/2023, including 168 children. More than 6,500 people have been injured. Israel reports that 1,139 Israelis and foreign nationals have been killed and 5,400 have been injured in Israel since 10/7/2023, including Israeli soldiers. In addition, 373 Israeli soldiers have been killed and 2,425 injured in Gaza since the ground invasion began on 10/27/2023. Over 1.93 million Palestinians, nearly 85% of the population of Gaza, have been displaced since 10/7/2023. There has been a complete electricity blackout in Gaza since 10/12/2023 due to the Israeli blockade. 87% of all housing units in Gaza have been destroyed or severely damaged since 10/7/2023. Refugees International, Anera, Care, Mercy Corps, NRC, Oxfam, MedGlobal, and Save the Children say Israel has not met any of the metrics the U.S. laid out for compliance with U.S. law on humanitarian relief for Gaza. The assessment is made on the day of the 30-day deadline that Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin set in their letter to Israel on 10/13. Among the requirements were enabling at least 350 trucks to enter Gaza each day; only 42 trucks carrying aid have entered per day. State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel says the U.S. government has not assessed that Israel has violated U.S. law on the issue. The UN Security Council discusses famine warnings for Gaza. PA ambassador to the UN Riyad Mansour says Israel is using “famine as a method of war for the purpose of ethnic cleansing and to advance its colonial objectives.” U.S. ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield says, “there must be no forcible displacement, nor policy of starvation in Gaza.” UN OCHA interim chief Joyce Msuya says “acts reminiscent of the gravest international crimes” are being committed in Gaza. The U.S. House of Representatives fail to pass HR 9495, the Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act, which would allow the Department of the Treasury to revoke tax-exempt status for nonprofit organizations that are considered to support “terrorism.” The bill receives 256 votes in favor and 145 votes against, but fails to receive the two-thirds required to pass. U.S. president-elect Donald Trump picks former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee as the next U.S. ambassador to Israel. Huckabee, an evangelical Christian, is a proponent of Israeli settlements and Israeli annexation of the West Bank. He will have to be confirmed by the Republican majority Senate after Trump’s inauguration. Huckabee said in 2017 that there is no occupation of Palestinian lands. Trump also nominates Fox News host Pete Hegseth for secretary of defense and businessperson Steven Witkoff as his Middle East envoy.
