Over 1.93 million Palestinians, nearly 85% of the population of Gaza, have been displaced since 10/7/2023. There has been a complete electricity blackout in Gaza since 10/12/2023 due to the Israeli blockade. At least 79,000 housing units have been destroyed and 370,000 have been damaged in Israeli airstrikes since 10/7/2023. UNOCHA reports that Israeli raids on Tulkarm and Nur Shams refugee camps between 8/28 and 9/7 damaged more than 400 homes, destroying 61, leading to the displacement of 327 people. Israeli forces have also bulldozed 1.6 miles of water and sewage networks in the camps. UNOCHA adds that Israeli raids on Kafr Dan, Jenin refugee camp, and the eastern part of Jenin have destroyed 45 homes, displacing 297 people, destroyed 15.5 miles of roads, and left 35,000 residents without running water. U.S. President Joe Biden issues a statement calling the killing of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi “totally unacceptable.” Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield reiterates the words of Secretary of State Antony Blinken from 9/10 on the Israeli killing of Eygi, saying it was “unprovoked and unjustified” and calling for “full accountability.” Eygi’s family issues a statement saying it would be appropriate for President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to speak with the family directly and to order an independent investigation into her killing.
