In the West Bank, a Palestinian man in Israeli detention succumbs to injuries sustained from Israeli forces in al-Ain refugee camp on 9/26. Israeli forces assault a Palestinian shepherd with pepper spray in Deir Istiya. Israeli forces also shoot and injure a Palestinian man in Baqa ash-Sharqiyya. Elsewhere, Israeli forces shoot and injure a Palestinian woman during a raid in al-Arroub refugee camp. Israeli forces also attack Palestinian shepherds in al-Maleh. In Gaza, Israeli forces bomb Nuseirat refugee camp, Maghazi, Gaza City, and Khan Yunis, killing at least 32 people. In Lebanon, Israeli forces bomb the Beirut neighborhoods of Bourj el-Barajneh, al-Kafaat, Hadath, Laylaki, Choueifat, and Ghobeiry, and the towns and cities of Jabal Blat, Tayr Debba, Taybeh, Deir Siriane, and Dahr al-Baydar, killing at least 33 people. Hezbollah forces fire rockets at al-Sadeh military site, the Ramat David airbase, Kabri, Sa’ar, and Rosh Pina. In Yemen, Houthi forces say they fired a ballistic missile at Ben Gurion Airport during the arrival of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu; the missile is intercepted. More than 41,586 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, including at least 16,456 children and 11,088 women, and around 96,210 have been injured since 10/7/2023. At least 10,000 people are missing in rubble. 709 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since 10/7/2023, including 151 children. More than 5,420 people have been injured. Israel reports that 1,139 Israelis and foreign nationals have been killed and 5,400 have been injured in Israel since 10/7/2023, including Israeli soldiers. In addition, 346 Israeli soldiers have been killed and 2,297 injured in Gaza since the ground invasion began on 10/27/2023. Over 1.93 million Palestinians, nearly 85% of the population of Gaza, have been displaced since 10/7/2023. There has been a complete electricity blackout in Gaza since 10/12/2023 due to the Israeli blockade. The Lebanese health ministry says the death toll from Israel’s attacks on Lebanon between 9/16 and 9/27 is 1,030 people, including 87 children and 56 women. 6,352 people have been injured. (AJ, WAFA 9/28)

Hezbollah confirms that Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah was killed on 9/27 in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut. Lebanese prime minister Najib Mikati declares 3 days of mourning for the killing of Nasrallah, starting on 9/30, and condemns the attack, calling for national unity. Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declares 5 days of mourning for Nasrallah. Iran requests an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the assassination of Nasrallah. PA president Mahmoud Abbas issues a statement offering condolences to Lebanon and Hezbollah for the killing. Hamas condemns the assassination. Prime Minister Netanyahu says Israel’s assassination of Nasrallah changes “the balance of power in the region for years to come” saying “Nasrallah was not a terrorist, he was the terrorist.” U.S. president Joe Biden calls the assassination of Nasrallah “a measure of justice” and calls for a ceasefire in Lebanon, saying the time is now. Vice President Kamala Harris calls Nasrallah “a terrorist with American blood on his hands.” The U.S. evacuates some embassy employees and their family members from Lebanon. At the UN General Assembly, Saudi foreign minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud says his country “categorically rejects all crimes perpetrated by Israel against the kindred Palestinian people,” calling Israeli practices “barbaric.” Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov says Russia is concerned that political assassinations, such as that of Hassan Nasrallah, have become commonplace and says the “killing of Palestinian civilians by American weapons must be stopped immediately.” Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi calls for a comprehensive ceasefire in both Gaza and Lebanon, saying that a 2-state solution is the way to end regional tensions. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan calls on the UN to stop Israel, saying Lebanon has become the new target of Israel’s policy of “genocide, occupation, and invasion.”  (AJ, HA, WAFA 9/28)
