In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces summon al-Aqsa Mosque imam Mohammad Saleem for interrogation after the Friday prayers. In Gaza, Israeli forces bomb Gaza City, Dayr al-Balah, Rafah, al-Mawasi, Khan Yunis, Maghazi, and Beit Lahiya, killing at least 20 Palestinians. More than 50,912 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, including at least 17,881 children and 12,749 women, and around 115,981 have been injured since 10/7/2023. In addition, 14,222 Palestinians who have been missing are presumed dead. 944 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since 10/7/2023, including 189 children. More than 6,500 people have been injured. Israel reports that 1,139 Israelis and foreign nationals have been killed and 5,400 injured in Israel since 10/7/2023, including Israeli soldiers. In addition, 408 Israeli soldiers have been killed and 2,584 injured in Gaza since the ground invasion began on 10/27/2023. Over 1.93 million Palestinians, nearly 85% of the population of Gaza, have been displaced since 10/7/2023. There has been a complete electricity blackout in Gaza since 10/12/2023 due to the Israeli blockade. 92% of all housing units in Gaza have been destroyed or severely damaged since 10/7/2023. Israeli public broadcaster Kan reports that Israel and Egypt have exchanged draft documents for a ceasefire deal. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani says the UN Human Rights Office has documented 224 Israeli attacks on residential buildings and tents between 3/18 and 4/9, finding that in 36 of the attacks only women and children were killed. Shamdasani also says “in light of the cumulative impact of Israeli forces conduct in Gaza, we are seriously concerned that Israel appears to be inflicting on Palestinians in Gaza conditions of life increasingly incompatible with their continued existence as a group.” (AJ, REU 4/11)
PA prime minister Mohammad Mustafa meets with Egyptian foreign minister Badr Abdelatty in Antalya, Turkey on the sidelines of the Joint Arab-Islamic Summit. Mustafa also holds a press conference with Saudi foreign minister Faisal bin Farhan and Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan, calling for an immediate ceasefire and the initiation of a reconstruction process in Gaza. A judge at a U.S. immigration court in Louisiana rules that Palestinian activist and green card holder Mahmoud Khalil can be deported from the U.S. based on the federal government’s argument that he poses “a national security risk.” Khalil’s spokesperson says “the court has decided that lawful permanent residents can have their status revoked for pro-Palestine advocacy. A Danish court dismisses a lawsuit filed by 4 humanitarian organizations, including Al-Haq, seeking to end Danish exports of military components to Israel. The organizations say they will appeal the decision to the Supreme Court. (AJ 4/11)
