Meanwhile, Israeli forces punitively demolish the family home in Qalqilya of a Palestinian man who was killed in an Israeli drone strike in August 2024. An Israeli settler is shot and lightly injured near the Ariel settlement. In East Jerusalem, a Palestinian worker dies of injuries sustained from falling 5 floors at a construction site while being chased by Israeli soldiers. Israeli settlers chase a Palestinian man chanting “Death to Arabs” before shooting and injuring him. The shooter is later arrested and released to house arrest on 3/13. An Israeli soldier is filmed standing nearby the injured man without providing aid before leaving the scene. More than 6,500 people have been injured. Israel reports that 1,139 Israelis and foreign nationals have been killed and 5,400 have been injured in Israel since 10/7/2023, including Israeli soldiers. In addition, 408 Israeli soldiers have been killed and 2,579 injured in Gaza since the ground invasion began on 10/27/2023. Over 1.93 million Palestinians, nearly 85% of the population of Gaza, have been displaced since 10/7/2023. U.S. president Donald Trump says “nobody is expelling any Palestinians” in response to a question in the Oval Office, seemingly retracting his demand that Arab countries take in all Palestinians from Gaza. Former Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant says in an interview that Israel knew from November 2023 that Shiri Bibas and her 2 children, who were taken captive on 7 October, had been killed in Gaza. Gallant also says that Shiri and her husband Yarden both engaged in armed combat on 7 October. A U.S. federal judge temporarily blocks the deportation of detained Palestinian Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil and orders that he be allowed to have private phone calls with his lawyers during a hearing in New York.
