Occupied Palestine/Israel: IDF soldier is injured by rock in jenin. 5 Palestinians in Burayj camp are wounded in demonstration. Tuqan School in Nablus is closed for 1 week [FBIS 10/11].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Paestinians from O.T. express doubts about Egypt's 10- point peace plan, but stop short of rejecting it altogether [NYT 9/29].

Jewish nationalists escorted by riot police march through E. Jerusalem to mark 22nd anniversary of Israel's rule over all Jerusalem [LAT 6/2]. Five new settlements in O.T. are to be started in next 5 months [FBIS 6/2].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Near Jenin Palestinians kill 57-year-old Palestinian accused of collaboration. In Nablus troops open fire, wound 5 Palestinians. Near Hebron settlers shoot, wound 2 Palestinians. At least 26 Palestinians are injured during clashes in Gaza Strip [FJ 6/5].

Arab World: King Hussein of Jordan arrives in Baghdad to discuss international affairs with Iraqi pres. Saddam Husayn. Jordan lifts ban on importation of olive oil from O.T.; decision was made after Jordanian farmers sold their olive crops [MET 4/11].

Other Countries: Pres. Bush declares he envisions Middle East peace that would entail "end of the occupation [of the West Bank and Gaza Strip] and achievement of Palestinian political rights" [WP 4/8], that "a properly structured international conference could play a useful role" in Middle East peace process [WSJ, LAT 4/4].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Israeli soldiers shoot, kill 20-year-old Palestinian at Am'ari refugee camp [NYT 4/4, FJ 4/10]. In Jenin troops raid village; clinics treat at least 10 Palestinians for injuries. In Khan Yunis collaborator is stabbed; troopshoot, injure 4 Palestinians running roadblock taking collaborator to hospital [FJ 4/3].

Arab World: Iraq says that it is not developing nuclear weapons and that it will retaliate if Israel strikes Iraqi targets [WP 4/4].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: General strike is observed throughout Gaza Strip [FBIS 3/ 10, FJ 3/13]. Finance Min. Peres states Israel must talk to Palestinians "as they are-as they are organized" [FBIS 3/10].

Military Action

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Israeli troops shoot, kill 24-year-old Palestinian from Rafah camp [FJ, FBIS 3/13]. Soldiers shoot, wound at least 12 Palestinians throughout O.T. In Jenin at least 35 Palestinians are arrested [FJ 3/13]. The border police are taking over many IDF responsibilities in Gaza Strip [FBIS 3/10].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: In Ramallah 2 Palestinians are shot, wounded by Israeli troops [FBIS 3/6, FJ 3/13]. In Jabalya troops open fire with plastic bullets, wounding at least 4 Palestinians [FBIS 3/6]. In Nablus 50-year-old Palestinian is shot after attacking Israeli soldier. In Jenin 2 Palestinians are shot during demonstrations. Troops shoot, wound 3 Palestinians in Tulkarm. At least 10 Palestinians are injured throughout Gaza Strip [FJ 3/13].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: D.M. Rabin issues orders allowing greater number of soldiers to fire at demonstrators, increased use of demolitions, sealings of stonethrowers' homes, more confiscation of Palestinian property; Rabin threatens to close schools of stonethrowers [NYT, WP 1/18]. General strike is observed in Gaza [FJ 1/23].

Other Countries: CBS/New York Times poll of American attitudes toward Middle East shows that 64% of 1,533 people sampled favor U.S.-PLO talks [NYT 1/18].
