Protesters in Ramallah sealed off the offices of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Ramallah, demanding action on behalf of a Palestinian prisoner said to be in critical condition after torture during his interrogation on 9/25. 2 Palestinians were arrested at a flying checkpoint between Bethlehem and Hebron. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished 4 Palestinian-owned sheep barns in Jabal Mukabir. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen 3 nautical miles from Bayt Lahiya; no injuries were reported. In the West Bank, several Palestinians suffered tear-gas related injuries during clashes with Israeli forces at a checkpoint in al-Bireh near Ramallah. 2 Palestinians were arrested at a flying checkpoint south of Bethlehem. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces violently dispersed a protest in front of the Hadassah Hospital in solidarity with a Palestinian prisoner who had been tortured by Israeli interrogators. 2 protesters were arrested and there were reports of beatings. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen 3 nautical miles off the shore of Bayt Lahiya. In Israel, 1 Palestinian citizen of Israel was killed and 2 others injured in Maj al-Krum. Elsewhere, in Kafr Kana, around 2,000 Palestinians marched to mark the anniversary of 13 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in 2000. In the West Bank, al-Ibrahimi Mosque was closed by Israeli authorities for Palestinians from midnight to 10 p.m. 5 Palestinians were arrested, including 3 during late-night raids in and around Bethlehem; 1 was arrested at a flying checkpoint near Salfit; and 1 near al-Ibrahimi Mosque for allegedly carrying a knife. In East Jerusalem, 4 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Issawiyya. Some 400 Israeli settlers, including Israeli minister of agriculture Uri Ariel, toured the Haram al-Sharif compound; Muslim worshippers were forced to leave al-Aqsa Mosque. The Palestinian man who was hospitalized after allegedly being severely beaten during interrogation by the Shin Bet on 9/29 was reported to have suffered broken ribs and kidney failure after the interrogation. The German city Aachen withdrew a $10,900 prize given to the artist Walid Raad because of Raad’s support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. Aachen’s mayor said in a statement, “According to research, we have to assume that the designated prizewinner is a supporter of the BDS movement and has been involved in various measures for the cultural boycott of Israel.” (ARTnews 10/1)

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian farmers and stole olives from the farmers in Dayr Sharaf near Nablus. Israeli forces clashed with Palestinians during a raid near Ramallah; tear-gas related injuries were reported and 1 glass door was damaged by a tear gas canister. Al-Ibrahimi Mosque was closed by Israeli authorities for Palestinians from midday. 18 Palestinians were arrested, including 17 during late-night raids in and around Tulkarm, Nablus, Jenin, and Bethlehem, and 1 Palestinian was arrested at a checkpoint near Salfit. In the West Bank, 11 Palestinians were arrested, including 9 during late-night raids in Dura, Hebron, and Ramallah. During the Ramallah raid, a confrontation between Israeli forces and Palestinians ensued; no injuries were reported but 1 vehicle belonging to Palestine TV was damaged by live ammunition; 2 were arrested during the day near Dura and Jenin. In Gaza, 1 Palestinian was killed during the 76th weekly Great March of Return protest; he was shot in the chest with live ammunition. In the West Bank, Israeli authorities seized some 1,500 dunams (370 acres) of Palestinian-owned residential and agricultural land in Dura. 9 Palestinians were arrested, including 8 during late-night raids in and around Abu Dis, Qalqilya, Tulkarm, Hebron, Nablus, and Ramallah; 1 was arrested during a daytime raid. In East Jerusalem, 2 Palestinians were arrested, including 1 during a late-night raid in Silwan; 1 Palestinian child was arrested at the al-Aqsa mosque after he allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli police officer, he was reportedly heavily beaten. Palestinian women in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza, and Israel marched to protest violence against women. The protesters adopted the slogan “Free homeland, free women.” The protests were sparked by a number of murders of Palestinian women by members of their families. The most recent was in late August, where a 21-year-old was killed allegedly by members of her family. (HA 9/27)

Around 100 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails ended a 15-day-long hunger strike after the Israel Prison Service agreed to limit the jamming devices installed in the prisons and to install public phones. (WAFA 9/26)

PA president Mahmoud Abbas announced at the UN general assembly that he will set a date for general elections in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza. President Abbas asked the UN to help aid and monitor the process. (HA 9/26)

The Saudi Arabian foreign minister announced that the country will contribute $50 million to UNRWA’s core program budget. (WAFA 9/28)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian-owned house in Dura. 6 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Birzeit, Nablus, Hebron, Tubas, and Jericho. Israeli forces raided several neighborhoods in Ramallah, leading to clashes with Palestinians; tear-gas related injuries were reported. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces arrested PA minister of Jerusalem affairs Fadi Hidmi during a house raid and delivered an arrest summons for PA governor of Jerusalem Adnan Ghaith and his son. Minister Hidmi and Governor Ghaith were arrested because they were going to an official event in East Jerusalem, which Israel does not allow PA officials to attend. Elsewhere, Israeli police raided a Palestinian-owned butcher shop and ordered it closed for 15 days for hiring a Palestinian resident of the West Bank. In the West Bank, Israeli force seized a vehicle near Tubas and demolished a house under construction near Nablus. Elsewhere, Israeli forces raided the office of the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees in Hebron and seized computer hard drives. 16 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, Nablus, and Jenin. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian-owned barn in Silwan and a house under construction in al-Tur; during the latter demolition, 2 Palestinians were arrested and video shows family members who owned the property were assaulted by Israeli police. In Gaza, Israeli forces fired tear gas at Palestinian farmers east of Rafah. Separately, Israeli forces made incursions to level land east of Dayr al-Balah. Broward County in Florida unanimously passed a resolution condemning the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. The resolution argued that the demand for Right of Return effectively would destroy the State of Israel as a homeland of the Jewish people. (MDW 9/27)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed a protest in al-Bireh against the treatment of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails; 8 injuries were reported. Elsewhere, in Ramallah, Palestinians suffered tear-gas related injuries during an Israeli military raid. Israeli forces also arrested 27 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Bethlehem, Jenin, Salfit, Qalqilya, Hebron, Abu Dis, and Tulkarm. Israeli settlers with military escort raided an archeological site in Sabastiyya and Joseph’s Tomb in Balata. In East Jerusalem, the Israeli magistrate court ordered the eviction of a Palestinian family of 13 from their home in Silwan. The lawsuit was brought by the settler organizations Ateret Cohanim and Elad. 28 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Issawiyya and Silwan. A court in Jerusalem upheld the Israeli Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories decision not to allow the majority of players and staff of the soccer team Khadamat Rafah travel permits to the West Bank for a match in the Palestinian soccer cup championship. The match was originally scheduled for 7/3, but the players and staff had not been able to obtain the permits to travel to the West Bank for the match for more than 2 months. The winner of the final game between Khadamat Rafah and Balata FC would represent Palestine at the Asian Cup. (AP, HA 9/23; AJ 9/25)

In the West Bank, 8 Palestinians were arrested, including 7 during late-night raids in and around Hebron and Hizma and 1 at a flying checkpoint near Qalqilya. Israeli settlers razed 6 dunams (1.5 acres) of Palestinian-owned land in Turmus ‘Ayya. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen on 2 separate occasions; no injuries were reported. Israeli forces also made incursions to level land east of al-Bureij. 1 Palestinian was arrested while applying for a travel permit at the Erez crossing. The Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) said it would cut electricity in some areas of the West Bank, arguing that the PA owes the company $484 million. The chairman of the Palestinian Energy Authority said that the debt is less than half of what the IEC claims. PA officials called the decision collective punishment and called on the international community to protest the decision. (HA 9/22)

The Joint Arab List, which won 13 seats in the Knesset at the Israeli elections on 9/17, recommended Blue and White leader Benny Gantz as the next Israeli prime minister, giving Gantz’s coalition 2 more votes than Likud’s 55. Blue and White still needs 4 more votes to be able to form a governing coalition. Joint Arab List leader Ayman Odeh explained in an op-ed in The New York Times that the Joint Arab List is not endorsing Gantz’s policy proposals, but is rather voting to unseat Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In the West Bank, 6 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces using live ammunition and rubber-coated bullets after clashes erupted during a military raid in ‘Azun. 15 Palestinians were arrested, including 8 during late-night raids in and around Hebron; 2 at checkpoints near Bethlehem and Bayt Furik; and 5 during a daytime raid in Bayt Umar. In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed the weekly anti-settlement protest in Kafr Qaddum, injuring 2 Palestinians with rubber-coated bullets. Israeli forces also confiscated a bulldozer belonging to the Taqqua municipality. Israeli settlers assaulted a Palestinian man on his land in Baytin and smashed the windshields of 3 Palestinian-owned cars in the area. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested during a house raid in Issawiyya. An Israeli court ordered the eviction of 18 Palestinians from their home in Silwan, handing their property to the Jewish National Fund (JNF). The eviction order ends a 30-year-long legal battle between the family and the JNF. In Gaza, 109 Palestinians were injured during the 75th Great March of Return protest, including 52 injuries by Israeli live ammunition. In the West Bank, Israeli forces entered Bardala in the Jordan Valley and shut down the village’s water pipes. Israeli settlers with military escort entered a mosque in Halhul, leading to clashes with Palestinians; several Palestinians were injured by rubber-coated bullets and from tear gas inhalation. Israeli forces raided several buildings in Ramallah, including the Addameer office, and confiscated documents and computers. The raid led to clashes with Palestinians; several Palestinians were injured by rubber-coated bullets and from tear gas inhalation. Israeli forces also delivered stop-work orders for 5 residential structures and animal barns in the Jordan Valley. In the West Bank, 1 Palestinian woman was killed by Israeli forces using live ammunition by a checkpoint in Qalandia after allegedly trying to stab an Israeli soldier. Israeli forces also chopped down more than 100 olive trees in Burqin, delivered stop-work orders for a number of houses under construction in Barta‘a, razed 145 dunams (35.8 acres) of agricultural land for expansion of the Karni Shomron settlement near Qalqilya, and demolished 2 agricultural structures in Atuf in the Jordan Valley. 2 Palestinians were arrested, including 1 during a late-night raid in Aida refugee camp and 1 at a checkpoint near Jaba‘. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces handed demolition orders for several homes in Issawiyya. In Gaza, 7 Palestinians were injured after rockets fired from Gaza landed inside the territory. In the West Bank, students from Birzeit University protested Israel’s rejection of visa renewals for 7 Birzeit University professors. 1 professor at Birzeit University was released from Israeli custody after being detained for 16 days. Israeli forces critically injured 1 Palestinian child in al-Mazra‘a near Ramallah. In Abu Dis, 1 Palestinian was shot in the leg and admitted to a hospital in Ramallah. In Tubas, several Palestinians suffered from tear gas inhalation after clashes with Israeli forces. In ‘Ayn Bus near Nablus, Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian-owned homes and tried to set vehicles on fire; Israeli forces subsequently injured 2 Palestinians using rubber-coated bullets as they attempted to fend off the Israeli settlers. 1 Palestinian was arrested at a flying checkpoint near Nablus. The EU issued a statement condemning the Israeli government’s approval of a new settlement in the Jordan Valley, reiterating that it considers all settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank illegal under international law. (EU 9/17; WAFA 9/18)

In the Netherlands, a court in The Hague held a hearing to consider the admissibility of a lawsuit filed by a Dutch-Palestinian against former IDF chief of staff Benny Gantz and former Israeli Air Force commander Amir Eichel for their responsibility in the death of 6 of his family members during the 2014 Gaza bombings. In the West Bank, a Palestinian man was rushed to a hospital in Ramallah after being beaten by Israeli forces at a checkpoint outside of Ramallah. Israeli settlers slashed tires and sprayed racist graffiti on walls in Duma village. Israeli forces razed land and demolished 1 house and 2 greenhouses in al-Walaja. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview with the Israeli Army Radio that he “intends to extend [Israeli] sovereignty on all the settlements and the [settlement] blocs . . . sites that have security importance or are important to Israel’s heritage.” PA prime minister Mohammed Shtayyeh said in response that the “Jordan Valley is part of Palestinian lands and any settlement or annexation is illegal,” further stating that the PA will sue Israel in international courts. PA president Mahmoud Abbas issued a decision to refer a number of Palestinian judges to early retirement based on the recommendation of the Transitional Judicial Council. (WAFA 9/15)

The Israeli government approved its proposal to legalize the Mevo’ot Yeriho settlement in the Jordan Valley at a meeting in the area. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the final approval will be given by the next government after the Israeli elections on 9/17. Netanyahu also said that the U.S. peace plan would be released immediately after the Israeli elections. Elsewhere in the West Bank, 1 Palestinian was injured by a rubber-coated bullet and other suffered tear-gas related injuries when Israeli forces violently suppressed a protest in Kafr Malik. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested during a late-night raid in Issawiyya. In Gaza, 78 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces during the 74th weekly Great March of Return protest, including 15 by live ammunition; 3 were hit by gas canisters; and 6 by rubber-coated bullets. In the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 10 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, Nablus, and Ramallah. In Ramallah, Israeli forces also stormed an office of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, seizing documents, and stormed several stores, seizing surveillance cameras. The raids in Ramallah led to confrontations with local residents; no injuries were reported. Elsewhere in the West Bank, Israeli forces uprooted 250 olive trees and destroyed 5 water wells near Tammun. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces entered a mosque in Issawiyya and fired tear gas canisters inside, causing tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also arrested 1 Palestinian during a late-night raid in Kaft ‘Aqab. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian agricultural lands east of Khan Yunis; no injuries were reported. According to Israeli forces, machine gun fire in Israel activated the Iron Dome system which fired a rocket, ultimately landing in Israel. In the West Bank, Israeli forces clashed with Palestinians during a raid in al-‘Arub refugee camp, leading to tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces also demolished 2 caravans, 1 tent, 1 solar panel, and 2 rooms near Yatta. 5 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Nablus, Birzeit, Yatta, and Bethlehem. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished 2 buildings under construction in Issawiyya. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Facebook page had an automated pop-up message, warning voters that “Arabs want to annihilate us all—women, children, and men,” and urged voters not to vote for a left-wing government “that relies on Arabs who want to destroy us all.” Joint List chairperson Ayman Odeh said that he had reached out to Facebook to end Netanyahu’s “racist and dangerous incitement against the Arab population.” (HA 9/11)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 17 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Qalqilya, Ramallah, Tubas, Jenin, Hebron, and Nablus. In Gaza, an Israeli drone was intercepted by Hamas. Later, rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel, close to where Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was addressing a crowd; he was subsequently evacuated. Israel then struck 15 different targets in Gaza, causing damage but no injuries were reported. Israel forces also opened fire near the Gaza fence; no injuries were reported. Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that, if reelected, he would annex the Jordan Valley from the northern part of the West Bank to the southern part, effectively surrounding the West Bank by Israel and creating small enclaves of Palestinian cities and villages in the area annexed, including Jericho. Netanyahu’s announcement drew condemnation from many countries and organizations. In the West Bank, a Palestinian journalist was injured by Israeli forces while covering a protest organized by students from Birzeit University at a checkpoint north of Ramallah. Later in a separate incident, a Palestinian child was injured by a rubber-coated bullet to the chest fired by Israeli forces in Bayt Rima; 1 Palestinian was arrested during the incident. An additional 10 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Jenin, Hebron, Ramallah, and Nablus. Israeli forces also demolished an agricultural building near Tarqumiyya. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian turned himself in to the police after Israeli forces had raided his home and handed his family an arrest summons. 2 other Palestinians were arrested during daytime raids in Issawiyya. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian agricultural land on 2 separate occasions; no injuries were reported. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers destroyed 3 Palestinian-owned vehicles in Asira. Israeli authorities issued 2 military orders to seize 100 dunams (24.7 acres) of land in Qaryut and Jalud south of Nablus. Israeli forces also raided Bayt Umar, leading to clashes with Palestinians; several suffered tear gas inhalation and 1 vehicle was seized. 3 Palestinians were arrested, including 1 during a late-night raid in Hebron. In East Jerusalem, 2 Palestinians were arrested on separate occasions, including 1 after he and his mother were pepper-sprayed by Israeli police near Shu‘fat refugee camp; and 1 at his workplace in Issawiyya. According to the Israeli military, 1 missile was fired from Gaza toward Israel but landed inside of Gaza. A delegation of Egyptian security officials also met with Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Palestine members after days of rocket fire between Gaza and Israel. (HA 9/8)

Hezbollah forces downed an Israeli drone in the Lebanese town of Ramyah. It was also reported that missiles were fired from Syria toward Israel, but they failed to penetrate Israeli territory. (AJ, HA, HA 9/9)

In the West Bank, 2 Israeli settlers were wounded by an unknown assailant attacking them with a knife in ‘Azun; ‘Azun village was subsequently sealed off by Israeli forces. Israeli forces delivered a stop-work order on a road near Nablus and confiscated a bulldozer. 2 Palestinians were arrested, including 1 during a late-night raid near Ramallah and 1 in Hebron. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was injured after being shot by Israeli forces during clashes in Issawiyya. In Gaza, after 2 Palestinians were killed during the Great March of Return protest on 9/6, Israeli forces reported that a drone had dropped explosives in Israel, causing no injuries but damaging a military vehicle. Israeli forces then fired at targets in Gaza, causing damage, but no injuries were reported. 3 Palestinians were arrested after they reportedly crossed into Israel. In Gaza, 2 Palestinian teenagers were killed and 81 were injured during the 73d weekly Great March of Return protest; 52 of the injured were hit by live ammunition. This brings the death toll stemming from the Great March of Return to 226. 2 Palestinians were reportedly arrested for crossing into Israel from Gaza. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers from the Yitzhar settlement cut down Palestinian-owned olive trees in Burin village. 5 Palestinians were arrested by Israeli forces during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Ramallah, and Nablus; 1 of the arrested Palestinians also had 200 Jordanian Dinars and 600 NIS confiscated, amounting to $455. Israeli forces also violently dispersed a protest in Zawata; tear-gas related injuries were reported. 10 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, and Nablus. Israeli settlers raided Madama village, burning herbs and damaging olive trees. The raid led to clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces; 1 Palestinian was injured by a tear gas canister to his head and others suffered tear-gas related injuries.
