According to a senior Israeli official, China recently informed Israel that it will not allow any of its citizens to work on Israel’s West Bank settlements. The restriction comes in the context of bilateral trade negotiations, which Israeli finance min. Moshe Kahlon initiated to facilitate his broader push to expedite construction of housing across Israel. Kahlon is hoping to have thousands of foreign workers come, replacing the current system of private construction firms hiring foreign workers as needed, which has resulted in a series of labor law violations and international criticism. Hamas’s parliamentary bloc Change and Reform passes the National Solidarity Tax Law, imposing a new tax on “non-basic” goods being imported into Gaza.
