In the West Bank, Israeli settlers with a military escort attacked Palestinians harvesting olives in Burin, stealing crops. Israeli settlers posing as soldiers also attacked 2 Palestinians in Qawawis in the Masafer Yatta area, stealing their property. Israeli forces killed 5 Palestinians in a drone strike on Fatah’s headquarters in Balata refugee camp, injuring 2 others. Israeli forces later raided the camp, demolishing a home and uprooting streets. Israeli forces also shot and killed a Palestinian and injured 3 others during a raid in Tubas. Elsewhere, Israeli forces shot and injured a Palestinian during a raid in Idhna. Israeli forces also assaulted Palestinians harvesting olives in al-Zawiya, Kisan, and Nahalin. 38 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Jaba’, Tubas, Jericho, Fasayil, and Birzeit. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces violently dispersed students and staff at a school in Isawiya, physically assaulting them and causing tear-gas related injuries. In Gaza, Israeli airstrikes in Khan Yunis and on an UNRWA school in Jabalia refugee camp killed 116 people. Israeli attacks on Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanun, and Gaza City also killed dozens, including at Tal al-Zaatar, an UNRWA-run school, and the Kamal Adwan Hospital. The number of fatalities was likely much higher since the Gaza Ministry of Health was unable to communicate with hospitals and civil defense members in northern Gaza. Israeli forces ordered the evacuation of al-Shifa Hospital, forcing at least 2,500 people to flee. 25 medical workers and 291 patients remained at the end of the day. The WHO said it would help evacuate those remaining at the hospital in the next 2-3 days. A Doctors Without Borders convoy evacuating patients from al-Shifa was attacked, killing 1 and injuring another. 3 Israeli soldiers were killed in fighting with militants. In Lebanon, Israel said it attacked sites linked to Hezbollah, including an aluminum plant near Nabatieh. The Gaza Ministry of Health was not able to fully update the casualty figures due to a collapse in services and communications at hospitals in northern Gaza. However, it stated that at least 11,800 Palestinians have been killed, including 4,630 children and 3,130 women, and around 32,000 injured in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza since 10/7. At least 3,250 people were missing in rubble, including 1,700 children. 204 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since 10/7, including 47 children. More than 2,730 people have been injured. Israel reported that 1,200 Israelis and foreign nationals had been killed and 5,431 have injured since 10/7. 56 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza since the ground invasion began on 10/27. Over 1.61 million Palestinians, around 70% of the population of Gaza, have been displaced since 10/7. There has been a complete electricity blackout in Gaza since 10/12 due to the Israel blockade. As of 11/6, at least 40,000 housing units have been destroyed and 220,000 have been damaged in Israeli airstrikes since 10/7, constituting 45% of all housing units. Around 10,000 people fled northern Gaza to the south. Around 26,000 gallons of fuel and 30 trucks carrying aid entered Gaza. 15 injured Palestinians arrived in the UAE for treatment. The Israeli police said it did not believe that Hamas had prior knowledge of the Nova music festival held near Kibbutz Re’im but spontaneously targeted it after entering Israel on 10/7. Israeli police said 364 people were killed at the music festival. Police sources said that Israeli combat helicopters may have hit festivalgoers while attacking militants. Israeli foreign minister Eli Cohen “there will be Israeli security control from the Jordan [river] to the [Mediterranean] sea at all times,” saying the PA should not govern Gaza. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the PA “in its current form is not capable of accepting the responsibility for Gaza.” (AJ, HA 11/18)

U.S. president Joe Biden published an op-ed in the Washington Post, saying that the U.S. may start issuing visa bans to extremist settlers to discourage settler violence. Biden also called for Gaza and the West Bank to be reunited under PA rule when Israel ends its attack on Gaza. At the IISS Manama Dialogue security conference in Bahrain, National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk linked humanitarian aid to Gaza with the release of captives, saying “the surge in humanitarian relief, the surge in fuel, the pause in fighting will come when hostages are released.” Jordanian foreign minister Ayman Safadi sharply criticized the U.S., saying it would have imposed sanctions on any other country that “did a fragment of what Israel” does in Gaza and that international calls for Israel to abide by international law do not change its behavior. U.S. senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) called on the U.S. to condition aid to Israel, saying Israel “does not have the right to wage almost total warfare against the Palestinian people. This is morally unacceptable and in violation of international law.” Sanders said to receive U.S. aid, Israel must end indiscriminate bombings and start pauses, allow displaced Palestinians in Gaza to return to their homes, not re-occupy or blockade Gaza, end settler violence and settlement expansion in the West Bank, and commit itself to peace talks for a two-state solution. Thousands of Palestinians gather at protests, sit-ins, and other demonstrations across the oPt in commemoration of the Naksa (the anniversary of the June War of 1967). Palestinian officials declare 6/8 a “day of rage,” encouraging the public to protest the Israeli occupation at Haram al-Sharif. In the West Bank, IDF troops arrest 3 Palestinians and issue 3 arrest summons during late-night raids near Qalqilya, Jenin, and Hebron; and patrol near Tulkarm, Qalqilya, and Hebron. In East Jerusalem, approximately 50 right-wing Israeli settlers tour Haram al-Sharif in the morning. Meanwhile, Israeli police confront a group of Muslim worshippers praying at the sanctuary; 12 Palestinians are arrested. Along Gaza’s border fence, unidentified Palestinians fly incendiary kites and balloons into Israel, sparking fires in the Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council and near Moshav Netiv Ha‘asara and Kibbutz Nir Am. Israeli forces arrest a Palestinian attempting to cross the border near Khan Yunis and violently disperse Great March of Return protesters gathering near Khan Yunis and Bayt Hanun (7 Palestinians are injured). For a 4th day in a row, Palestinians gather across the oPt to protest U.S. pres. Trump’s 12/6 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Israeli forces violently disperse them in Tulkarm, Salfit, Bethlehem, at Huwwara checkpoint near Nablus, al-‘Arub refugee camp near Hebron, and along Gaza’s border near Khan Yunis, Jabaliya refugee camp, Gaza City, al-Bureij refugee camp, and Rafah; at least 24 Palestinians are injured and 8 are arrested. Meanwhile, Israeli forces confiscate Palestinian agricultural equipment near Nablus. IDF troops arrest 21 Palestinians during late-night raids near Ramallah, Jenin, Bethlehem, Nablus, and Salfit; and patrol near Hebron throughout the day. Palestinians throw rocks at Israeli settler cars near Jerusalem, lightly injuring 1 minor. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces uproot a number of trees in a cemetery outside the Old City and arrest a Palestinian attempting to stop them. Along Gaza’s border, IDF troops open fire on Palestinian lands near Jabaliya refugee camp, causing no damage. Off Gaza’s coast, Israeli naval forces open fire on Palestinian fishing boats near Bayt Lahiya late at night, causing no damage or injuries. In West Jerusalem, Israeli police arrest a Palestinian youth after he allegedly stabs and injures 1 of them at the Central Bus Station. They later uncover a message the alleged attacker posted on Facebook indicating that he was motivated, at least in part, by the 12/6 U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. The IDF demolishes a tunnel leading from Gaza into Israel near Kibbutz Nirim. “The tunnel that was thwarted today was a very significant tunnel and [built] to higher standards than what we are used to seeing,” a spokesperson says. (HA, NYT, TOI 12/10)

Senior PA official Nabil Shaath says that the PA no longer intends to sever all ties with the U.S. over Trump’s 12/6 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. “We are not cutting our relationship with America. We are protesting the move of Mr. Trump,” he says. Shaath says that some forms of communication have continued throughout the recent crisis, but that communication about the peace process has been “interrupted.” (TOI 12/10)

Fatah Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad says that there have been “obstacles” blocking the PA from taking full control of Gaza, which was supposed to proceed by today after being delayed from the 12/1 deadline initially enshrined in the 10/12 national reconciliation agreement. The 2 sides neglect to set a new deadline, and the future of the reconciliation process is therefore unclear. (AFP, TOI 12/10)

In the Gaza Strip, Palestinians fire approximately 20 projectiles into s. Israel, causing no injuries and minor damage to several buildings in 1 kibbutz. Two projectiles are intercepted by Iron Dome batteries. The IDF launches air strikes on 3 Hamas-related targets in the s. Gaza Strip. IDF troops on the border fence nr. Rafah fire tank shells at the remains of the Gaza international airport, causing no casualties. Later, IDF troops open fire on farmers close to the border fence nr. Dayr al-Balah, wounding 1. Off the coast nr. Bayt Lahiya, IDF naval forces open fire on Palestinian fishermen, causing no damage or injuries. In the West Bank, IDF troops injure 8 Palestinians with live ammunition and rubber-coated metal bullets during clashes with demonstrators at Qalandia checkpoint nr. Ramallah. There is also a demonstration in Surayf village nr. Hebron protesting Israeli settlements, and IDF troops open fire during the ensuing clashes, wounding 5 Palestinians. The IDF patrols in 1 village nr. Ramallah in the morning, in al-Fawar r.c. nr. Hebron in the afternoon, and in 2 villages nr. Ramallah at night. IDF troops violently disperse Palestinian, Israeli, and international protesters at weekly demonstrations against Israel’s separation wall, settlements and, occupation in 3 villages nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Nabi Salih, and Ni‘lin), and 1 village nr. Qalqilya (Kafr Qaddum). There are no serious injuries. In East Jerusalem, Israeli security forces deploy in large numbers and restrict worshippers’ access to Haram al-Sharif. Two days after his death on 7/2, Abu Khdeir’s funeral is held in Shu‘fat, after which there are violent clashes with Israeli police, who use rubbercoated metal bullets and injure 20. Israeli media reports that Egyptian intelligence officials are mediating a truce between Israel and Hamas, on the basis of “quiet for quiet.” Israeli FM Lieberman criticizes talk of a possible cease-fire and urges the IDF to target the Hamas leadership. Hamas spokesperson Abu Zuhri, meanwhile, says the group is “not interested in a confrontation” and holds Israel “responsible for the escalation.” (REU, ToI, YA 7/4)

Israeli police and Shin Bet arrest 5 more members of alleged underground Palestinan cell suspected of 2 murders, 2 attempted murders, bringing total arrested to 25 [JP 5/7]. Police Staff Sergeant-Major Yosef Oren is charged in police disciplinary court with beating a prisoner with electric cords to force him to confess to murder [JP 5/7]. Other Countries: U.S. Senate rejects by vote of 73-22 the Reagan administration's request to sell $354 million worth of advanced arms to Saudi Arabia [NYT, WP 5/7]. Ahmad Nawaf Mansur, a Jordanian arrested in connection with the explosion at a West Berlin discotheque last month, has reportedly confessed to an earlier bombing in the city, saying it was organized by the Syrian embassy in East Berlin [NYT 5/7].
