Oman’s foreign minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah said at the World Economic Forum in Jordan on 6 April that Palestinians should assure that Israel is not under threat and that the best solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was “recognizing Israel and its right to exist.” Foreign Minister Abdullah was rebuked on stage by Jordanian foreign minister Ayman Safadi, saying that “the issue is that there is an occupation” and that the Arab world “has recognized Israel’s right to exist. The Palestinians themselves recognized the Israeli right to exist . . . that is not the issue.”
In late June, Oman announced that it will be opening an embassy to Palestine in Ramallah. It is unclear when the embassy will be opened.
