In the Gaza Strip, IDF troops conduct an incursion close to the border fence in the n. of the territory, and are met by resistance from Palestinian fighters—1 of whom is injured. Meanwhile, unidentified Palestinians fire a Qassam rocket into s. Israel at night, which causes no damage or injuries. In the West Bank, the IDF conducts house searches and arrest raids in Hebron and Nablus at night; patrols in 1 village and al-‘Arub r.c. nr. Hebron at night. In East Jerusalem, IDF troops enter the al-Aqsa mosque compound and denied Palestinians access—meanwhile, a group of ultra-Orthodox Jews are allowed entry. (MNA 9/18; PCHR, YA 9/19)

Iranian pres. Hassan Ruhani vows in an interview on U.S. television that Tehran will never develop nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, White House spokesperson Jay Carney reveals that Pres. Obama has exchanged letters with Pres. Ruhani and told him that the U.S. is ready to resolve the dispute but that there is a need to act with urgency. (AP, REU 9/18)
