Axios reports that UAE foreign minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan called the PA “Ali Baba and the 40 thieves” during a meeting on 4/29 attended by PLO secretary-general Hussein al-Sheikh, U.S. secretary of state Antony Blinken, and the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and Kuwait. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss a post-war strategy for Gaza. Al Nahyan's comment reportedly reflected the UAE's mistrust of the reforms initiated by the PA. In a comment to Axios, an official from the UAE confirmed the reporting and added that Al Nahyan told al-Sheikh “that if the Palestinian Authority paid as much attention to its own people as it does to security coordination with Israel the Palestinians will be in much better shape.” (AX 6/6)
