In the West Bank, Israeli forces set up a metal gate, shutting the main entrance to Nabi Salih. Israeli forces also handed a demolition notice for the family home of a Palestinian prisoner in Kubar and handed a stop-work order for 4 structures in the Jordan Valley. Elsewhere, Israeli forces entered al-Ibrahimi Mosque and forced worshippers and staff to leave the mosque. Israeli forces also violently suppressed a protest in al-Bireh; 2 Palestinians were injured by live ammunition, 3 by rubber-coated bullets, and others suffered tear-gas related injuries. 7 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, and Nablus. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian was arrested during a late-night raid in Issawiyya. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire and used water hoses on Palestinian fishermen 3 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza City, causing damage to boats. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian farmland east of Rafah; no injuries were reported. In Israel, more than 150 vehicles were vandalized and racist graffiti in Hebrew, such as “Jews wake up” and “Enough with the assimilation,” was sprayed on several buildings in the Christian Palestinian village of Jish. At a UN Security Council meeting, PA president Mahmoud Abbas sharply rejected the U.S. administration’s peace plan, saying “[t]his is an Israeli-American pre-emptive plan in order to put an end to the question of Palestine.” While President Abbas was speaking in New York, Palestinian protesters in Ramallah demonstrated against the U.S. peace plan. After the protest, Palestinians and Israeli forces clashed at a checkpoint north of Ramallah; 2 Palestinians were injured by rubber-coated bullets and others needing treatment for tear-gas related injuries. In the West Bank, Israeli forces handed demolition notices to a Palestinian family in Jenin and for several houses and animal barns in Fasayil in the Jordan Valley. Israeli forces also demolished a water irrigation pipeline in Bardala. 12 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, Ramallah, Tulkarm, and Jericho. During the raid near Jericho, 2 Palestinians were injured and hospitalized after confrontations with Israeli forces. Israeli settlers threw stones at 1 Palestinian-owned vehicle near Nablus, causing damage. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian-owned house in Bayt Hanina and a house under construction in Jabal Mukabir. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen west of Khan Yunis; 1 Palestinian was injured and damage to equipment was reported. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian bird hunters east of Jabalia; no injuries were reported. Israeli forces also made incursions to level land near Khan Yunis. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu backtracked on his announcement that Israel would immediately start annexing the Jordan Valley following his meeting with U.S. president Donald Trump on 1/28. Prime Minister Netanyahu now said that Israel would start annexing the Jordan Valley after the Israeli elections on 3/2. Netanyahu’s decision to wait was reportedly made after pressure from U.S. senior advisor to the president Jared Kushner. (HA 2/4)

In the West Bank, a Palestinian school in ‘Ayn Bus was set on fire, damaging classrooms, and racist Hebrew graffiti was painted on the building. Israeli forces seized tracts of land north of Hebron to expand an Israeli settlement. 11 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Biddu, Bethlehem Tubas, Tulkarm, Hebron, and Jenin. During a raid in Jenin, Israeli forces confiscated a vehicle and cash. Palestinians protested the U.S. administration’s version of a peace plan in several places throughout the West Bank; at least 12 Palestinians were reported injured. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished a Palestinian-owned store in Wadi al-Juz. 8 Palestinians were arrested, including 3 during raids in Silwan and the Old City, and 5 at the Haram al-Sharif compound. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was indicted in the 3 corruption cases against him. Prime Minister Netanyahu had earlier on that day, before the indictment, withdrawn his request for immunity from prosecution. (AJ, HA 1/28)

U.S. president Donald Trump, flanked by Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, presented the U.S. administration’s version of a peace plan, which on all contentious issues took maximalist Israeli positions. The plan presented a vision for 2 states; however, the map of these 2 “states” presented with the plan showed a carved-up West Bank where the majority of Israeli settlements and the Jordan Valley were annexed by Israel. A swath of land in Israel, where some 250,000 Palestinian citizens of Israel live, would be annexed to the Palestinian “state.” Some land in Israel along the Egyptian border would also be part of the Palestinian state. Jerusalem would become part of Israel and the Palestinian capitol would be east of Jerusalem on the West Bank side of the separation border. Gaza and the West Bank would be connected by a bridge or a tunnel. The Palestinian state would be demilitarized, including disarming Hamas and Islamic Jihad in Palestine (PIJ). Israel would control all of Palestine’s international borders. There would be no right of return for Palestinians as “[t]heir Arab brothers have the moral responsibility to integrate them into their countries as the Jews were integrated into the State of Israel.” Furthermore, the peace plan would allow Jews to pray on Haram al-Sharif and the PA would have to stop paying stipends to families of Palestinian prisoners in Israel. The Palestinian leadership’s response to the U.S. administration’s vision of a peace plan was condemnation. PA president Mahmoud Abbas said that “Trump and Netanyahu declared the slap of the century, not the deal. And we will respond with slaps.” At President Abbas’s speech were representatives from Hamas and PIJ. Hamas said Abbas had spoken with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and that the 2 had agreed to stand together in unity on the matter. Shortly after the U.S. peace plan was released, Prime Minister Netanyahu said that he would convene the Israeli cabinet on 2/1 to start annexing Israeli settlements, the Jordan Valley, and the northern Dead Sea. Jared Kushner, senior advisor to President Trump, said shortly after Netanyahu’s announcement that he did not believe that Israel would start annexing West Bank settlements on 2/1, contradicting the Israeli prime minister. In the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 16 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Tulkarm, Tubas, and Nablus. In Israel, 3 Palestinians from Gaza who had breached the Gaza fence were shot dead by Israeli forces. The Israeli military alleged that the 3 threw improvised explosives at the Israeli forces. Israeli defense minister Naftali Bennett said that Israel would annex the West Bank if the PA acted to erase the distinction between Areas A, B, and C. Chairperson of the Kahol Lavan party Benny Gantz separately said that he would work to advance annexation of the Jordan Valley if elected prime minister. (HA 1/21)

In Lebanon, a new government was formed under the new prime minister Hassan Diab. Prime Minister Diab described his 20 new ministers as a technocratic “rescue team.” Despite the formation of the new government, the protest that started in 2019 continued in Lebanon. (HA 1/21; AJ 1/22)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished a blacksmith shop in Hizma and handed demolition notices for Palestinian-owned homes in the northern part of the Jordan Valley. 19 Palestinians were arrested, including 17 during late-night raids in and around Jenin, Tubas, Jericho, Bayt Fajjar, and Hebron; and 2 at different flying checkpoints near Jerusalem. A talk by a Palestinian citizen of Israel at the Hecht Museum at Haifa University was canceled by the Hecht Museum because the artist was “Palestinian,” which would displease the Hecht Foundation. The Haifa University condemned the decision and relocated the talk elsewhere on campus. (HA 1/16)

Israel carried out air strikes against a Syrian military base in Homs, killing 3 people and injuring several others. (AJ, HA 1/15)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces seized 5 Palestinian-owned tractors in the northern part of the Jordan Valley. Israeli forces and Palestinians clashed during the weekly anti-settlement protest in Kafr Qaddum, leading to tear-gas related injuries. Separately, Israeli forces fired live ammunition, sound bombs, and tear gas at protesters near Ramallah, leading to tear-gas related injuries. 3 Palestinians were injured in al-Mughayyir by live and rubber-coated bullets after Israeli settlers and forces raided the village, leading to clashes with Palestinians. 9 Palestinians were arrested, including 5 during daytime raids in and around Jenin, Qalqilya, and al-‘Arub refugee camp; and 4 at military checkpoints near Bethlehem. In the West Bank, 7 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Qalqilya, Nablus, Salfit, Jericho, and Hebron. In East Jerusalem, 2 Palestinians were arrested in the Old City. In Gaza, Israeli forces struck several targets, causing damage; no injuries were reported. An IDF spokesperson said that the attack was in response to a rocket fired at Israel on 12/25. The organizing committee of the Great March of Return announced the suspension of the weekly Great March of Return protest to the end of March 2020. The announcement also declared that from April 2020, the protest would be monthly instead of weekly. (AJ, HA 12/26)

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu won the Likud leadership primary over his rival Gideon Sa’ar with 72.5 percent of the vote. Netanyahu said in his victory speech that he would work toward U.S. recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and all Israeli settlements in the West Bank. In the West Bank, Israeli forces seized a forklift during a raid in ‘Ayn al-Bayda in the Jordan Valley. In Bayt Umar, Israeli forces and Palestinians clashed after Israeli forces raided the town, leading to tear-gas related injuries. Separately, 2 Palestinians were arrested during a late-night raid in Bayt Umar. In East Jerusalem, 7 Palestinians were arrested, including 1 in Bab al-Rahma at the Haram al-Sharif compound; 1 in his car east of the Old City; and 5 during a raids in Issawiyya and Ras al-Amud. Approximately 80 Israeli settlers toured the Haram al-Sharif compound. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinian agricultural lands east of al-Bureij; no injuries were reported. In the West Bank, Israeli forces opened fire and fired tear gas at Palestinians near the separation barrier north of Tulkarm, causing injuries. Israeli forces injured a Palestinian in Bayt Jala who allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at an Israeli military vehicle; the man was hospitalized for his injuries. Israeli settlers vandalized road construction equipment in the northern part of the Jordan Valley. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished the 2d floor of a Palestinian-owned building in Issawiyya. In Gaza, Israeli forces killed a Palestinian, who was allegedly approaching the Gaza fence, in an airstrike. In the West Bank, the Israel Electric Corporation cut power for 10s of thousands of Palestinians in Ramallah for 3 hours between 2pm and 5pm. Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian-owned vehicles driving on a road between Nablus and Qalqilya, causing damage. Israeli settlers also vandalized a number of Palestinian-owned bulldozers in the Jordan Valley by filling their fuel tanks with sand. 5 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Jenin, and Qalandia. In East Jerusalem, 3 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids, including a Fatah official. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on agricultural lands, damaging a municipality truck. In a separate incident, Israeli forces fired tear gas near Khuza‘a; no injuries were reported. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen 3 nautical miles off the coast of Jabaliya; no injuries were reported. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers razed Palestinian-owned land in Burin using a bulldozer. Israeli forces seized 1 Palestinian-owned vehicle in Sawahara al-Sharqiyya and demolished 1 shack and 2 residential structures near Abu Nawwar. 11 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Ramallah, Nablus, Bethlehem, and Hebron; 2 others were arrested at a school in Urif. Israeli forces conducted military drills in the northern part of the Jordan Valley. Israeli forces also sealed off an entrance to Nahalin; 2 other entrances to the village are permanently closed. In Gaza, Israeli forces fired tear gas at agricultural lands, forcing farmers to leave the area east of Khan Yunis. 1 Palestinian was arrested at the Erez crossing. In the West Bank, 8 Palestinians were arrested, including 7 during late-night raids in and around Bayt Awa, Yatta, and Bethlehem; 1 at a flying checkpoint near Jenin. 1 Palestinian teenager was hospitalized after being beaten by Israeli forces during a daytime raid near Nablus. In East Jerusalem, 4 Palestinians were arrested during daytime raids in the Old City and Issawiyya. Israel’s defense minister Naftali Bennett ordered the “planning processes to be advanced” for new settler housing in Hebron. The plan includes development of a closed fruit and vegetable market for settler housing. According to Defense Minister Bennett, the new settlement housing “will create territorial continuation from the Cave of the Patriarchs [al-Ibrahimi Mosque] to the Avraham Avinu neighborhood, and double the number of Jewish residents in the city.” PLO’s secretary general Saeb Erakat said in a tweet that Bennett’s announcement was the “first tangible result of the U.S. decision to legitimize colonization,” referring to U.S. secretary of state Mike Pompeo’s announcement from 11/18 that the U.S. no longer considers the Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law. Defense Minister Bennett also sent a letter to the Palestinian municipal government of Hebron demanding consent for the demolition of the fruit and vegetable market, threatening that Bennett would start legal proceedings to lift the municipality’s protected status over the site. The Israeli cabinet approved an allocation of 40 million shekels ($11.5 million) for construction of 1st-aid stations and security in Israeli settlements in the West Bank. The chairperson of the Joint Arab List Ayman Odeh subsequently sent a letter to the Israeli attorney general demanding an examination of the constitutionality of the allocation, saying that the approval “raise[s] a grave suspicion of a budget allocation in exchange for a political favor.” (HA 12/1)

Israeli settlers chased Palestinian farmers off their land in the Jordan Valley. In East Jerusalem, 4 people were arrested while protesting Israeli police activity in Issawiyya. In Gaza, Israeli forces conducted 3 air strikes, causing damage but no injuries. In Israel, the Palestinian-Israeli member of Knesset Ahmad Tibi was attacked by right-wing Israelis while arriving at an event in central Israel. In the West Bank, Israeli forces confiscated a water tank in Anata, halted construction for a water well in the northern Jordan Valley, and razed 30 dunams (7.4 acres) of land south of Hebron. 3 Palestinians working on restoring the water well in the Jordan Valley were arrested. Another 12 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Tulkarm, Jenin, Qalqilya, Salfit, Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Hebron. Israeli forces also raided a cultural center near Ramallah, confiscating documents. Israeli settlers uprooted 36 olive trees near Burin. 2 Palestinians were injured by Israeli forces using rubber-coated bullets in separate incidents near checkpoints in Jenin and Tulkarm. In East Jerusalem, 4 Palestinians were arrested in al-Tur. In Gaza, 1 Palestinian who was injured during the Great March of Return prostest on 4/19 succumbed to his wounds. In the West Bank, Israeli forces entered Bardala in the Jordan Valley and shut down the village’s water pipes. Israeli settlers with military escort entered a mosque in Halhul, leading to clashes with Palestinians; several Palestinians were injured by rubber-coated bullets and from tear gas inhalation. Israeli forces raided several buildings in Ramallah, including the Addameer office, and confiscated documents and computers. The raid led to clashes with Palestinians; several Palestinians were injured by rubber-coated bullets and from tear gas inhalation. Israeli forces also delivered stop-work orders for 5 residential structures and animal barns in the Jordan Valley. In the West Bank, 1 Palestinian woman was killed by Israeli forces using live ammunition by a checkpoint in Qalandia after allegedly trying to stab an Israeli soldier. Israeli forces also chopped down more than 100 olive trees in Burqin, delivered stop-work orders for a number of houses under construction in Barta‘a, razed 145 dunams (35.8 acres) of agricultural land for expansion of the Karni Shomron settlement near Qalqilya, and demolished 2 agricultural structures in Atuf in the Jordan Valley. 2 Palestinians were arrested, including 1 during a late-night raid in Aida refugee camp and 1 at a checkpoint near Jaba‘. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces handed demolition orders for several homes in Issawiyya. In Gaza, 7 Palestinians were injured after rockets fired from Gaza landed inside the territory. In the West Bank, students from Birzeit University protested Israel’s rejection of visa renewals for 7 Birzeit University professors. 1 professor at Birzeit University was released from Israeli custody after being detained for 16 days. Israeli forces critically injured 1 Palestinian child in al-Mazra‘a near Ramallah. In Abu Dis, 1 Palestinian was shot in the leg and admitted to a hospital in Ramallah. In Tubas, several Palestinians suffered from tear gas inhalation after clashes with Israeli forces. In ‘Ayn Bus near Nablus, Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian-owned homes and tried to set vehicles on fire; Israeli forces subsequently injured 2 Palestinians using rubber-coated bullets as they attempted to fend off the Israeli settlers. 1 Palestinian was arrested at a flying checkpoint near Nablus. The EU issued a statement condemning the Israeli government’s approval of a new settlement in the Jordan Valley, reiterating that it considers all settlements in East Jerusalem and the West Bank illegal under international law. (EU 9/17; WAFA 9/18)

In the Netherlands, a court in The Hague held a hearing to consider the admissibility of a lawsuit filed by a Dutch-Palestinian against former IDF chief of staff Benny Gantz and former Israeli Air Force commander Amir Eichel for their responsibility in the death of 6 of his family members during the 2014 Gaza bombings. In the West Bank, 5 Palestinians were arrested, including 1 during a late-night raid near Tulkarm; 3 were arrested during a daytime raid near Salfit; and 1 was arrested at a flying checkpoint near Nablus for allegedly carrying a gun. Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian homes in Hebron, smashing several windows using rocks. In East Jerusalem, 4 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in the Old City and Issawiyya. Israeli settlers razed land and set up caravans and construction material in Jabal al-Mintar, intending to build an illegal outpost. In Gaza, Israeli forces opened fire on agricultural lands and shepherds east of Khan Yunis; no injuries were reported. Israeli forces also made incursions to level land east of Rafah. PA president Mahmoud Abbas issued a decision to refer a number of Palestinian judges to early retirement based on the recommendation of the Transitional Judicial Council. (WAFA 9/15)

The Israeli government approved its proposal to legalize the Mevo’ot Yeriho settlement in the Jordan Valley at a meeting in the area. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the final approval will be given by the next government after the Israeli elections on 9/17. Netanyahu also said that the U.S. peace plan would be released immediately after the Israeli elections. A PA presidential spokesperson criticized the Israeli decision to hold the cabinet meeting in the Jordan Valley. (HA, WAFA 9/15)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 17 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Qalqilya, Ramallah, Tubas, Jenin, Hebron, and Nablus. In Gaza, an Israeli drone was intercepted by Hamas. Later, rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel, close to where Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was addressing a crowd; he was subsequently evacuated. Israel then struck 15 different targets in Gaza, causing damage but no injuries were reported. Israel forces also opened fire near the Gaza fence; no injuries were reported. Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that, if reelected, he would annex the Jordan Valley from the northern part of the West Bank to the southern part, effectively surrounding the West Bank by Israel and creating small enclaves of Palestinian cities and villages in the area annexed, including Jericho. Netanyahu’s announcement drew condemnation from many countries and organizations. The U.S. responded that, “[t]here is no change in United States policy at this time.” PA president Mahmoud Abbas warned that if Israel annexed parts of the West Bank, the PA would end all agreements with Israel. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers wrote racist graffiti and slashed tires on 5 Palestinian-owned vehicles in Haris near Salfit. Israeli forces handed demolition notices for some 20 Palestinian-owned structures in Qalandia and demolished a water well in the northern Jordan Valley. In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished a water tank for irrigation near Bardala in the Jordan Valley. 4 Palestinians were arrested by Israeli forces, 3 during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Bethlehem, and Jericho. 1 was arrested at a flying checkpoint by Ni‘lin. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces raided a stadium in the Old City where a soccer tournament was about to start. During the raid, several Palestinians sustained injuries. Israel’s Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan had signed the order to stop the tournament, stating “The event will be held on behalf of and/or is sponsored by the Palestinian Authority.” Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen 3 nautical miles from the coast. In the West Bank, 1 Israeli settler was killed near the Migdal Oz settlement; there was no identified suspect. After the settler’s body was found, Israeli forces set up roadblocks in the area south of Bethlehem. Israeli settlers later in the day threw stones at Palestinian vehicles north of Ramallah. Israeli authorities gave demolition notices for 4 residential houses and an industrial structure in Bayt Awa near Hebron. Israeli forces seized a Palestinian-owned tractor in Ras al-Ahmar in the Jordan Valley. 6 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Jenin, Kafr Nimeh, and Jalazun. In East Jerusalem, some 260 Israeli settlers with police escort toured the Haram al-Sharif compound. 2 Palestinians were arrested during a late-night raid in Issawiyya. Israeli forces also demolished 4 barns and a house under construction near Bayt Jala. Israeli settlers from the Yitzhar settlement raided ‘Urif south of Nablus, throwing stones and bottles at buildings, causing damage. 26 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Nablus, Jenin, Tulkarm, Bethlehem, Hebron, and Jericho. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolish 1 house in Bayt Hanina and 1 wall in Issawiyya. Israeli forces also arrested 7 Palestinians during late-night raids in Issawiyya. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fishermen in 3 separate incidents; 1 Palestinian was arrested and 1 boat confiscated. An Israeli court ruled that 6 Palestinians from the bedouin village of al-Araqib in southern Israel have to pay $372,000 for their own evictions. Al-Araqib was last demolished on 8/5 for the 149^th time since 2010. (HA 8/8)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished shacks and seized tents in al-Hadidiyya in the Jordan Valley. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces injured dozens of Palestinians in Issawiyya when clashes erupted between protesters and Israeli soldiers. (WAFA 7/21; WAFA 7/22)  

Israel sought to deport a Palestinian from East Jerusalem to Jordan, but Jordanian authorities denied the Palestinian access to Jordan. The Palestinian man was then taken to the Givon Prison in Israel. (WAFA 7/22; HA 7/23)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished part of a house, a car wash, and another small structure in al-Jib. Israeli forces also razed land and set up caravans in Huwwara. Israeli settlers set up mobile homes on Palestinian-owned land near the Maskiyot settlement in the Jordan Valley. 8 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Salfit, Jenin, and Bethlehem. In the raid near Bethlehem, Israeli forces clashed with local residents, leaving 1 Palestinian injured by live ammunition. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolished a car wash in Sur al-Bahir, a commercial structure in Bayt Hanina, and 4 commercial structures in Silwan. Several heads of international organizations such as the UN, the World Bank, and the UNRWA called for Israel to halt planned demolitions of 10 residential buildings in Sur al-Bahir in East Jerusalem. The buildings are scheduled to be demolished on 7/18. (WAFA 7/17)

U.S. special representative for international negotiations Jason Greenblatt said in an interview with PBS that he rejects the term “occupied” to describe the West Bank, saying that, “Judea and Samaria . . . is disputed” rather than occupied. Of illegal Israeli settlement, Greenblatt said, “I don’t even like the word settlement. I think it’s a pejorative term. I use the term neighborhoods and cities.” (PBS 7/17; HA 7/18)

In the West Bank, 1 Palestinian 10-year-old was seriously injured by Israeli forces during the weekly anti-settlement protests in Kafr Qaddum. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers seized a water well in the northern part of the Jordan Valley. Also in the northern part of the Jordan Valley, 3 Palestinians were detained at the Hamra checkpoint; all 3 are members of the Palestinian security forces. In Gaza, 34 Palestinians were injured by live ammunition and others were injured by rubber-coated bullets and by tear gas inhalation during the Great March of Return protest. 1 Palestinian teenager’s condition was reportedly serious. Israeli authorities reported that 2 rockets were fired from Gaza to Israel. The rockets were reportedly shot in revenge for the murder of a member of Hamas the Israeli military killed by mistake on 7/11, according to Israeli forces. In the West Bank, Israeli forces arrested 33 Palestinians during daytime and late-night raids in and around Hebron, Ramallah, Bethlehem, Qalqilya, Jenin, and Nablus. Israeli forces also stopped work on a water tank in Kardala in the Jordan Valley. Israeli forces demolished a house in Bayt Umar In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces detained 2 Palestinian children and separately arrested 5 in Issawiyya. Elsewhere in East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers took over a Palestinian-owned building with 4 separate apartments in al-Suwana. The settlers were escorted by Israeli police. The Israeli military claimed to have found a tunnel from Gaza to Israel during construction of a barrier that is said to prevent more tunnels from being dug. The Israeli military also claimed to have shot down a drone near the Gaza fence; it did not report whether the drone was privately-owned, Israeli, or Palestinian, nor the type of drone. (HA, HA 7/8)

A court in Jerusalem found that the PA was liable for damages for 17 incidents where Palestinians killed Israelis during the 2d Intifada in the early 2000s. Several incidents were not committed by PA personnel, nor did the PA have knowledge that they would be carried out. The judge ruled that the PA was retroactively responsible for the incidents because they explicitly or implicitly endorsed them after they happened. The judge ordered the PLO, PA, and Yasir Arafat’s estate to pay $1.6 million for the cost of the trial. A different judge will determine how much the 3 entities must pay in damages. (HA 7/9)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces demolished 6 residential tents, 6 livestock enclosures, 2 animal barns, 45 water barrels, and solar panels belonging to 2 Palestinian families in the Ras al-Ahmar area of the Jordan Valley. In Umm al-Khair south of Hebron, Israeli forces demolished a residential structure. 10 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in and around Bethlehem, Hebron, and Salfit. In Gaza, Israeli authorities closed the Gaza fishing zone after 5 fires broke out in southern Israel. Israeli authorities claimed that the fires were ignited by incendiary balloons from Gaza. After closing the fishing zone, Israeli forces claimed to have intercepted a rocket fired from Gaza and subsequently struck targets in Gaza.
