Israeli elections are held. After polls close, Peres is initially projected as the winner, but the gap with Netanyahu closes as the night wears on. At midnight, votes are still being counted, and the race is too close to call. Israeli Arab voter turnout is estimated to be 78 percent; Jewish voter turnout 80 percent.
