In the West Bank, Israeli settlers assaulted 2 Palestinians and stole a vehicle in Deir Jarir. Israeli settlers also brought their sheep to graze on Palestinian wheat and barley crops near Yatta, causing damage. Israeli forces ordered a Palestinian family to remove their residential tent, a solar panel, a toilet, and a water tank in Khirbet al-Deir. In Tel Aviv, thousands of Israelis protested against the Israeli government for the seventeenth Saturday in a row. In Syria, Israeli forces conducted airstrikes from over northern Lebanon in the Homs region, injuring 3 and causing severe damage to a fuel station. (AP 4/28; AJ, HA, WAFA 4/29)

Group of about 200 Arabs and Jews protesting 4-month closure of Birzeit U. and expulsion of student council head is stopped on road to university by military roadblock [JP 5/16; FJ 5/17]. Israel/ Occupied Territories: Israel announces another 20 Jewish settlements to be built in West Bank in next year, 10,000 to be settled in Gaza Strip over next five; Israelis remain silent in face of US criticism, deride Hussein's suggestion that PLO recognize Israel as basis for peace process; Dhahriyeh (south-west of Hebron) put under curfew after children stone passing IDF vehicles; settler group urges Israeli military commander of West Bank central region to deport any person who participates in stone-throwing.
