In the West Bank, Israeli forces continue the assault on the Jenin governorate for the sixth day in a row, killing a Palestinian man after arresting him in Kafr Dan. The Jenin Governmental Hospital says the man's body showed signs of beatings and torture. Israeli forces also kill a Palestinian child in a drone attack on Silat al-Haritiya. Meanwhile, Israeli forces shoot and injure 2 journalists in Jenin. Israeli forces also continue to demolish infrastructure in Jenin. Separately from the assault on Jenin, Israeli forces bomb Tulkarm refugee camp, injuring 5 people, including a medic. Israeli forces also shoot and injure a 12-year-old girl during a raid in Tulkarm and besiege the Thabet Thabet and Al-Israa hospitals. Elsewhere, Israeli forces shoot and injure a Palestinian man in Qabatiya. Israeli forces also assault a WAFA photographer in Ramallah, confiscating his memory card. Meanwhile, Israeli forces demolish a home in ad-Duyuk al-Tahta. Israeli forces also close al-Ibrahimi Mosque for Muslim worshippers, citing a Jewish religious holiday. Meanwhile, Israeli forces arrest 20 Palestinians during late-night raids. Israeli settlers set fire to olive groves in al-Lubban ash-Sharqiya. Israeli settlers also assault a Palestinian man and steal his sheep in Aqraba. In Gaza, Israeli forces bomb Jabalia refugee camp, Nuseirat refugee camp, Dayr al-Balah, Gaza City, and al-Bureij refugee camp, killing at least 48 people. Israeli forces also bomb the gate of al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. In Lebanon, Israeli forces bomb Naqoura, killing 2 people, including a UNIFIL contract worker. More than 40,786 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in Gaza, including at least 16,456 children and 11,088 women, and around 94,224 have been injured since 10/7/2023. At least 10,000 people are missing in rubble. 670 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since 10/7/2023, including 145 children. More than 5,420 people have been injured. Israel reports that 1,139 Israelis and foreign nationals have been killed and 5,400 have been injured in Israel since 10/7/2023, including Israeli soldiers. In addition, 340 Israeli soldiers have been killed and 2,266 injured in Gaza since the ground invasion began on 10/27/2023. Over 1.93 million Palestinians, nearly 85% of the population of Gaza, have been displaced since 10/7/2023. There has been a complete electricity blackout in Gaza since 10/12/2023 due to the Israeli blockade. At least 79,000 housing units have been destroyed and 370,000 have been damaged in Israeli airstrikes since 10/7/2023. Hamas says in June it instructed guards handling Israeli captives to kill them if Israeli forces approached, citing Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's insistence on seeking their release by force rather than through a ceasefire deal and the massacre of more than 250 Palestinians in the operation that freed 4 captives in Nuseirat refugee camp on 6/8. The Israeli labor union Histadrut says it has instructed its members to go back to work after an Israeli labor court orders the general strike in Israel to end by 2:30 p.m. The strike started this morning, affecting Ben Gurion Airport, banks, malls, government offices, and public transportation services. U.S. president Joe Biden says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not doing enough to secure a ceasefire deal with Hamas. Netanyahu says Biden should apply more pressure on Hamas. At a press conference, Netanyahu presents a map showing the West Bank, Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights as part of Israel while explaining why he will not allow Israeli soldiers to leave the Philadelphi Corridor in what seems to be a case for a permanent occupation of the area. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris meet with the U.S. ceasefire negotiation team at the White House. Mossad director David Barnea travels to Qatar for ceasefire negotiations, Haaretz reports that Barnea says Israel is willing to withdraw from the Philadelphi Corridor in contradiction to statements made by Netanyahu. The UK government announces that it will suspend 30 out of 350 arms export licenses to Israel, citing a “clear risk” that the equipment is being used to “commit serious violations of international humanitarian law.” The suspension does not apply to F-35 components. Haaretz reports that Serbia exported $8 million worth of arms and ammunition to Israel in July, raising the total value of Serbian arms exports to Israel to $25.5 million in 2024. (HA 9/2)
