In the West Bank, Israeli forces raided Ni‘lin and punitively demolished the family home of a Palestinian man who was killed after he allegedly killed 1 Israeli woman in Tel Aviv on 3/9; 2 Palestinians were injured by live ammunition while protesting the demolition. The punitive demolition was carried out in a 4-story apartment building on the second floor with explosives, causing damage to other apartments. Israeli forces also shot and injured 2 Palestinians during a raid in Qabatiya. Elsewhere, Israeli forces issued a demolition order for a house under construction in Tura. Israeli forces also seized 2 tractors in Deir Sharaf. Meanwhile, Israeli forces raided Bardala, sealing water wells. 18 Palestinians were arrested during raids in Qabatiya, al-Jalama, Tubas, al-Am’ari refugee camp, Nablus, Salem, al-Arroub refugee camp, Birzeit, al-Mughayyir, and al-‘Awja. The head of the Israeli police’s operational division Sigal Bar-Zvi said that Israel should declare a state of emergency over the continuing rise in gun violence in the Palestinian cities and towns in Israel. So far this year, 80 Palestinian citizens of Israel have been murdered. Bar-Zvi blamed organized crime for the rise in the murder rate. (HA 5/24)

Haaretz reported that the second largest Israeli spyware company QuaDream had announced that it would shut down due to its failure to get authorization from the Israeli Defense Ministry to sell its Reign spyware to Morocco and other new clients. Morocco was reportedly barred by Israel from buying QuaDream’s spyware as it had used NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware to target senior officials in Europe, including French president Emmanuel Macron. Turkish media reported that Turkish intelligence had arrested 11 members of a Mossad spy ring that operates against Iran. (HA 5/23)

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers assaulted 2 Palestinian shepherds with pepper spray in al-Hama. 1 person rammed an Israeli soldier in Huwwara, lightly injuring the soldier. Israeli forces subsequently forced shops in Huwwara to close and set up flying checkpoints in the town. Israeli forces also razed 30 dunams of land planted with onions and eggplant and damaged water pipes in Nu’eima and a tract of land in ‘Asira al-Qibliya. Meanwhile, Israeli forces notified Palestinians in Tell, Jit, and Far’ata that Israel will seize 14.5 dunams (3.6 acres) to expand the Havat Gilad settlement outpost. In East Jerusalem, Israeli national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir toured the Haram al-Sharif compound, saying in a statement “[a]ll the threats from Hamas will not help them, we are in charge of Jerusalem and all of the land of Israel.” Ben-Gvir did not coordinate the tour with the Islamic Waqf. In response to National Security Minister Ben-Gvir’s tour of the Haram al-Sharif compound, the PA said that he “will not bring about Israeli sovereignty over the complex,” warning that Ben-Gvir may ignite a religious war. The Israeli cabinet held a meeting in the controversial “Western Wall Tunnels” built under the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. Agreements were made at the meeting to allocate $16 million to the settler organization Western Wall Heritage Foundation and $8 million to the settler organization Elad Foundation. Ahead of the cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich forced through the removal of a discussion of a 5-year plan to improve life in East Jerusalem. Haaretz reported that the members of the Negev Forum will meet in Morocco on 6/25 and that Israel and the U.S. are working to add “an African country with a Muslim majority” to the summit. Israel’s Channel 13 News reported that Morocco, Egypt, Bahrain, and the UAE had asked Israel and the U.S. to change the forum’s name to something not related to Israel. Al Monitor reported that Israeli foreign minister Eli Cohen believed that a breakthrough in Saudi-Israeli normalization can reached before the end of 2023. However, according to Israeli officials Saudi Arabia could demand a settlement freeze and commitments to Muslim control over the Haram al-Sharif compound. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers shot and injured 1 Palestinian shepherd near Madama. Israeli forces shot and injured 1 Palestinian minor near the separation wall southwest of Jenin. Israeli forces also razed land in Deir al-Hatab to expand the Elon More settlement and notified Palestinians in Shufa that Israeli will seize 5 dunams (1.25 acres) of land. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers with a police escort marched and assaulted Palestinians in the Old City, Ras al-Amud, and al-Tur, causing injuries and damage to property. Israeli settlers also gathered at the entrances to the Haram al-Sharif compound, chanting provocations at Muslim worshippers for the third day in a row. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire at Palestinian fishermen 3 nautical miles west of Gaza City and 5 nautical miles northwest of Khan Yunis; no injuries were reported. In Tel Aviv, Israelis protested for the twentieth week in a row against the government’s planned judicial reform. Police in Berlin arrested 12 people participating in a Nakba Day rally for chanting “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.” The demonstration was a small rally of 400 people arranged by Jewish organizations in Berlin because a larger Nakba Day rally was banned by Berlin police, claiming it could lead to “anti-Semitic incitement.” The ban was upheld by a regional court in Germany. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers with a military escort attacked Palestinians at a water spring in Qaryut, leading to tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Beita and Bayt Dajan, injuring 14 with tear gas. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinians protesting in Beit Umar, causing tear-gas related injuries. Meanwhile, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Kafr Qaddum, injuring 3 Palestinians with baton rounds and others with tear gas. Israeli forces also raided Tulkarm, detonating an explosive at a carpentry shop and causing it to burn down. 10 Palestinians were arrested during raids in Tulkarm, Sanur, and al-Mughayyir. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers gathered at the entrances to the Haram al-Sharif compound, attacking Palestinians and their property and chanting provocations at Muslim worshippers for the second day in a row. At the 32nd Arab Summit in Jeddah, Syrian president Bashar al-Assad attended for the first time since Syria was suspended from the Arab League in 2011. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy also attended. UNRWA commissioner-general Philippe Lazzarini addressed the attendees, calling on the Arab states to increase their funding for the agency. The Arab states affirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause to the Arab League in its final communique. In the West Bank, Israeli forces shot and injured 1 Palestinian minor in Aida refugee camp. In East Jerusalem, tens of thousands of Israelis marched through the Old City, including the Muslim Quarter for the so-called Flag March, attacking Palestinians and Palestinian property and yelling genocidal and racist slogans such as “Death to Arabs,” “May your village burn down,” and profanities against the Prophet Muhammad. 3 journalists and 3 Palestinians were assaulted by the marchers. Israeli police also assaulted several journalists, including CNN correspondent Ben Wedeman. The U.S. condemned the behavior at the march as “outrageous and unacceptable.” National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir took part in the march. Thousands of Israeli settlers, including Negev and Galilee development minister Yitzhak Wasserlauf and MKs Dan Illouz, Amit Halevi, and Ariel Kallner toured the Haram al-Sharif compound. Later Israeli forces also prevented the call to prayer before the sunset prayer from al-Aqsa Mosque. In Gaza, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinians protesting against the Flag March along the Gaza fence, injuring 5 with baton rounds and causing tear-gas related injuries. The Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant ordered Israeli Central Command chief Yehuda Funch to authorize entry of Israeli settlers to the Homesh settlement outpost and to grant the Shomron Regional Council a plot of land to create a Yeshiva on. The move was made to prevent Palestinian landowners from successfully appealing to the Israeli High Court of Justice to have the settlers cleared from Homesh and for them to regain access to their land. U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that the U.S. was “deeply troubled” by the Israeli decision, noting that the order contravened promises made by then Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon in 2004 to the Bush administration and by the Netanyahu government to the Biden administration. The French foreign ministry also condemned the move, saying it contravened commitments made by Israel at the Aqaba and Sharm El Sheikh summits in February and March. According to Axios, Israeli officials had told the Biden administration that Israel does not intend to turn Homesh into a new settlement. Haaretz reported that Israeli finance minister and de facto governor of the West Bank, Bezalel Smotrich, has stressed at closer door meetings that it is Israeli policy to improve infrastructure in Israeli settlements and outposts to prepare for an additional 500,000 Israeli settlers moving to the West Bank. Smotrich also instructed government officials to draw up plans for more checkpoints between Israel and the West Bank for settlers. The U.S. responded to the reporting saying that “we view the expansion of settlement as an obstacle to peace.” The Israeli government later said that Smotrich’s statements did not represent the policies of the Netanyahu-led government. 6 Democratic members of the U.S. House of Representatives held a press conference outside of the Capitol building criticizing the Biden administration and their colleagues for not holding Israel accountable for the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh last year and for human rights violations against Palestinians in general. The 6 members, Andre Carson (D-IN), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), Betty McCollum (D-MN), and Cori Bush (D-MO), spoke alongside members of Abu Akleh’s family. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers vandalized 1 water well, 120 olive tree saplings, and wheat and barley crops in the Masafer Yatta area. Israeli forces shot and injured 6 Palestinians, including 1 with live ammunition and 5 with baton rounds during a raid in Nablus to clear the area around Joseph’s Tomb for a large settler tour. Israeli forces also demolished 1 agricultural structure in Nabi Ilyas and issued a demolition notice for a commercial structure in Deir Balut. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers toured the Haram al-Sharif compound. Israeli forces demolished 1 residential building in Wadi Qaddum, displacing 50. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces opened fire at Palestinian fishermen west of Beit Lahiya; no injuries were reported. The subcommittee for settlements under the Higher Planning Committee in the Civil Administration approved 552 housing units for construction in the Givat Ze’ev settlement. The Israeli Ministry of Construction and Housing also issued a tender for the construction of 58 housing units in the planned new settlement Ariel West. (PCN 5/17; WAFA 5/20)

The Knesset approved a preliminary vote to ban flying the flag of a “hostile entity,” including the Palestinian flag. If enacted the flying of the Palestinian flag could be punishable by up to 1 year in prison. The bill will have to pass 3 readings in the Knesset to become law. (QDS 5/17; JDF, MEE 5/18: HA 5/25)

Ahead of the Jerusalem Day march in Jerusalem, Israeli national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said that his policy is “to allow the complete freedom of movement for Jews in Jerusalem.” (HA 5/17)

Jordanian member of parliament Imad al-Adwan was charged in a state security court in Amman for smuggling weapons to the West Bank. Al-Adwan was arrested by Israeli forces on 4/22 and later handed over to Jordan. (AP, MEE 5/17)

Israeli Foreign Ministry director general Ronen Levy met with U.S. officials in Washington D.C. to discuss ways to expand the normalization deals the U.S. has been brokering for Israel, particularly the prospect of normalizing ties with Saudi Arabia. Among the U.S. officials were White House Middle East coordinator Brett McGurk, presidential envoy on energy security Amos Hochstein, and White House senior director for African affairs Judd Devermont. Hochstein and McGurk met with Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman on 5/7. Axios also reported that the White House was considering appointing former U.S. ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro as the State Department normalization envoy. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers set fire to 1 Palestinian-owned car and wrote racist graffiti in Beit Iksa. Israeli forces shot and injured 4 Palestinians during a raid in Jenin. Israeli forces also demolished 3 agricultural structures in al-Khader. Elsewhere, Israeli forces raided Khadouri Technical University in al-Arroub refugee camp, injuring 1 Palestinian with live ammunition and others with tear gas. Israeli forces also raided Hebron University, causing tear-gas related injuries. 21 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Aqabat Jaber refugee camp, Jenin, Qabatiya, Bethlehem, and Ramallah; 1 Palestinian was injured by live ammunition during the raid in Aqabat Jaber refugee camp. The European Commission’s trade department issued new guidelines, forcing importers to declare if products are made in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, or the Golan Heights. The guidelines were made to ensure that settlement products are not tariff exempt in the EU the same way that Israeli products are. (HA 6/19)

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers set fire to wheat and barley crops in Kisan. Israeli forces shot and killed 1 Palestinian man during a late-night raid in Askar refugee camp, 1 other was seriously injured. Israeli forces also notified 1 Palestinian family that the military will seize parts of their land in al-Jalama to expand the separation wall. PA president Mahmoud Abbas addressed the UN to commemorate the 75-year anniversary of the Nakba. It was the first time that the UN officially commemorated the Nakba. In his address, Abbas called on the UN to suspend Israel or enforce the resolutions made on Israel and Palestine and called on the international community to intervene to protect Palestinians, invoking the settler attack on Huwwara and the genocidal rhetoric from the current Israeli government. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers uprooted 15 olive and 10 almond trees in Husan. Israeli forces shot and injured 1 Palestinian man during a raid in Nablus; 2 were arrested. Israeli forces also assaulted 2 Palestinians at the Deir Sharaf checkpoint, leading to the hospitalization of 1 of them. Elsewhere, Israeli forces forced Palestinian businesses to close and removed Palestinian flags from buildings in Huwwara. Israeli forces also notified Palestinians in Khirbet Humsa that they will be temporarily evicted from 5/16 to the morning of 5/17 for Israeli military drills. 6 Palestinians were arrested during raids in Qatanna, Jenin, and Jericho. In East Jerusalem, Israeli authorities forced 1 Palestinian family to demolish part of their own home in Jabel Mukaber. 4 Palestinians were arrested during raids in Isawiya and Jabel Mukaber. In Gaza, 1 rocket was fired at Israel around 24 hours after the ceasefire was announced in what was claimed to be a misfire. Israel conducted an airstrike on Beit Lahiya, causing damage. Israel reopened the Erez and Kerem Shalom crossings to Gaza for the first time since Israel began its attacks on Gaza on 5/9. The reopening of the crossings followed a ceasefire agreement which was reached on 5/13. (HA 5/13; REU 5/14)

Hamas political bureau head Ismail Haniyeh spoke to Islamic Jihad secretary-general Ziyad al-Nakhalah, offering his condolences for the Islamic Jihad members killed by Israel in the latest assault on Gaza. Haniyeh also said in a press statement that Hamas and Islamic Jihad had managed the response to Israel through the Joint Operations Room. Israeli officials had said that Hamas did not actively partake in the firing of rockets. (QDS, QDS 5/14)

The Knesset Ministerial Committee on Legislation discussed a bill that would stop Israeli government funding to East Jerusalem schools that use the Palestinian curriculum. (HA 5/14)  

Otzma Yehudit leader Itamar Ben-Gvir said that he opposed the Israeli budget because of a lack of funds “to Judaize the Negev and the Galilee.” (TOI 5/14)

In Gaza, Israeli forces killed 9 Palestinians during airstrikes on the third day of Israel’s attack on Gaza. Israeli forces assassinated Islamic Jihad member Ali Hassan Muhammad Ghali in an airstrike on a residential building in Khan Yunis, 2 others were also killed in the strike and 7 were injured, including 1 child and 3 women. Later Israeli forces assassinated Islamic Jihad member Ahmed Abu Daqqa in an air strike on his home in Khan Yunis, injuring 4 others, including 1 woman and 1 child. Israel also assassinated 2 members of the Mujahideen Brigades, Husain Dallol and Mohammed Dared, in an airstrike in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood of Gaza City. 2 Palestinians were killed in airstrikes in Jabaliya refugee camp. 1 Palestinian was injured in an airstrike in Nuseirat refugee camp. In Israel, 1 rocket fired from Gaza hit an apartment building in Rehovot, killing 1 Israeli and injuring 5 others. In the West Bank, an Israeli settler rammed 1 Palestinian woman near al-Arroub refugee camp, causing moderate injuries. Israeli settlers threw stones at Palestinian vehicles near Beit Umar. Elsewhere, Israeli settlers razed land near ‘Urif. Israeli forces shot and killed 1 Palestinian, injured 1 and arrested 4 during a raid in Nur Shams refugee camp. Israeli forces issued a stop-work order for a water pipeline near Maeen in the Masafer Yatta area. 23 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Nablus, Tubas, Tulkarm, Hebron, Bethlehem, and Ramallah. In calls overnight, U.S. national security advisor Jake Sullivan and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin urged their Israeli counterparts to deescalate the situation in Gaza. Both U.S. officials also stressed the U.S.’s “ironclad support for Israel’s security.” (HA 5/10; HA, HA 5/11)

The Munich Group, consisting of the foreign ministries of Jordan, Egypt, Germany, and France, held a meeting in Berlin and expressed concern over the situation in Gaza, calling the civilian casualties “unacceptable.” (WAFA 5/11)

Israeli police issued an administrative restraining order against 2 Palestinian citizens of Israel from Tuba-Zangaria, barring them from entering Rosh Pina, Tiberias, Kfar Tavor, and Kiryat Shamona for 30 days. The 2 had not been brought in for questioning or arrested. (HA 5/11)

On the 1-year anniversary of the Israeli killing of Palestinian American Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari told CNN that “we are very sorry of the death of Shireen Abu Akleh.” Abu Akleh’s niece Lina said the remarks did not amount to an apology, calling it “a slap in the face to Shireen’s legacy and to our family. An apology, which that was not, is not accountability.” Memorial services for Abu Akleh have been carried out in Washington D.C., Ramallah, and Doha. Abu Akleh’s family members, U.S. lawmakers, Al Jazeera, and several press associations marked the anniversary by demanding accountability for her death. PA prime minister Mohammad Shtayyeh also laid the cornerstone for the Shireen Abu Akleh press museum in Ramallah which is scheduled to open in 2025. The Israeli military refused to investigate the trashing of a Palestinian-owned apartment building in Huwwara by Israeli forces. The building was temporarily seized by Israeli forces after the large-scale settler attack in February. According to the Palestinian owner, the Israeli soldiers had vandalized his property leaving trash and feces throughout the building and burned 2 water meters and a portable toilet. (HA 5/11)

In Gaza, 7 Palestinians were killed, including at least 4 by Israeli airstrikes, and 36 were injured on the second day of the Israeli assault on Gaza. 2 Palestinians were killed in an airstrike on a field in Abasan al-Kabira, while 2 Palestinians were killed and 2 injured in an airstrike on a field in al-Shuka east of Rafah. 8 Palestinians, including 3 children and 3 women, were injured in airstrikes on al-Salem near Rafah. 1 Palestinian was killed and 1 woman seriously injured when a missile fell on their house in Beit Lahiya, 2 minors were killed and 12 others were injured when a missile fell on a house in Gaza City, and 13 were injured after a missile fell on a house in Beit Hanun. PCHR said its initial investigation raised suspicion that these 3 incidents could be from rockets misfired from Gaza. Islamic Jihad started firing rockets at Israel 35 hours after Israel assassinated 3 of their members and after 3 separate rounds of airstrikes. The Office of the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process (UNSCO) released a report saying that a strategic shift by the parties and the international community is necessary to reverse the negative trajectory of the PA. Khader Adnan, a popular member of Islamic Jihad, died in his cell in the Magen-Nitzan prison in Ramle after an 86-day hunger strike in protest over his administrative detention. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces raided the Bab al-Rahma area of the Haram al-Sharif Compound, destroying electric panels and speakers. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers with a military escort raided al-Mughayyir, leading to tear-gas related injuries among Palestinian resisting the raid. Israeli forces shot and injured 1 Palestinian minor near the separation wall in Araqah. Israeli forces also raided Beit Umar, causing tear-gas related injuries and arresting 3. 2 other Palestinians were arrested in Huwwara and Tammun. In East Jerusalem, 2 Palestinians were arrested in the Old City. In Taibeh, 1 Palestinian security guard was shot and killed outside of the home of Taibeh mayor Shua’a Mansour. An Israeli official told the Times of Israel that Israel will lower the fuel transfer fee from 3% to 1.5%, increase the fees transferred to the PA for crossings at the Allenby Bridge, and expand the list of tax-free imports to the PA. The three measures were reportedly part of agreements made at the Aqaba and Sharm el-Sheikh summits in February and March. (TOI 4/21)

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers stole 3 sheep from Palestinian herders near Kisan. Israeli forces issued stop-work notices for 3 homes and 2 agricultural structures in Ni’lin and issued notices to Palestinians in Sanniriya that the Israeli military will seize 2 dunams (12.8 acres) of land for military purposes. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces raided the Haram al-Sharif compound twice to confiscate Palestinian flags and arrested 13 worshippers. The Israeli-run Jerusalem municipality retracted its support for the establishment of a new neighborhood in East Jerusalem built for Palestinians on privately owned Palestinian land. The new neighborhood of 2,500 homes would have been the first established since 1967 intended for Palestinian residents. According to reports Jerusalem mayor Moshe Leon retracted his support for the project due to fear of losing the upcoming local elections. (HA 4/19)

In Syria, Israeli forces fired artillery shells at southern Syria from the occupied Golan Heights and dropped leaflets warning Syrians in the area against working with Hezbollah. An Israeli drone also crashed in Syria. (HA 4/19)

The Israeli finance and transportation ministries agreed to a 5-year budget where a quarter of the $7.2 billion total will be earmarked for settlement infrastructure in the West Bank. (HA 4/20; HA 4/23)

Officials from Israel, India, the U.S., and the UAE signed a memorandum of understanding in Washington D.C. to create a business coalition in relation to the I2U2 Group initiative. (HA 4/19)

Axios reported that U.S. secretary of state Antony Blinken urged Nigerien president Mohamed Bazoum to normalize relations with Israel during a visit to the country in March. Israeli forces also issued stop-work notices for 19 Palestinian-owned buildings in al-Zawiya, including for a mosque. In East Jerusalem, 2 Israeli settlers were shot and injured in Sheikh Jarrah, 1 Palestinian minor was later arrested as a suspect. Peace Now reported that Israel secretly approved 189 housing units in the Zayit Raanan settlement outpost, which currently is home to a number of caravans. By approving the new units Israel discreetly created a new settlement out of the outpost which lies northeast of Ras Kaskar. (PCN 4/18)

PA president Mahmoud Abbas met with Saudi crown prince Mohammad bin Salman in Jeddah, discussing developments in Palestine. Abbas praised Saudi Arabia’s support for the Palestinian cause. In the West Bank, Israeli forces shot and injured 1 Palestinian woman, claiming she had stabbed and injured 1 settler near Beit Umar. Israeli forces also assaulted 1 Palestinian after forcing him to stop his vehicle near Jericho. 10 were arrested during late-night raids in al-Bireh, Bayt Rima, Dura, Bethlehem, Aida refugee camp, Tulkarm, and Asira. The Israeli Border Control Administration denied entry to a Palestinian German teenager at Ben Gurion International Airport. She said she was verbally abused and threatened with violence before she was returned on a plane to Germany after being detained for 32 hours. PA president Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Jeddah for a visit where he will be meeting with Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman on 4/18. Chinese foreign minister Qin Gang spoke to PA foreign minister Riyad al-Maliki and Israeli foreign minister Eli Cohen in separate calls, informing them that China is ready to support the resumption of peace talks. Saudi Arabia hosted a meeting of the foreign ministers of Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait to discuss allowing Syria to return to the Arab League. The Wall Street Journal reported, based on anonymous sources, that the rockets launched at Israel from Lebanon on 4/6 were launched by Shi’ite forces in coordination with the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force Esmail Qaani, Hamas leaders Saleh al-Arouri and Ismail Haniyeh, and Hezbollah secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah. The Israeli state prosecutor closed a probe into the Israeli police’s killing of 1 Palestinian citizen of Israel near the Haram al-Sharif compound on 3/31. Israeli police claimed that no cameras caught the incident as the police officers’ body cameras were turned off and that the incident happened in a blind spot for surveillance cameras. Palestinians have contested the police’s narrative and several organizations have questioned the notion that no camera would have caught the incident given that the area is heavily surveilled. An Israeli court ruled that Israel’s interior minister does not have the authority to revoke residency status and citizenship from relatives of Palestinians who are accused of attacking Israelis as a means of deterrence. (HA 4/13)

13 Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives, headed by Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), and Bernie Sanders (D-VT) in the Senate wrote a letter to U.S. president Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging them to shift U.S. policy on Israel-Palestine. The letter mentioned the worsening violence, Israel’s “further annexation of land, and denial of Palestinian rights.” The group also said that U.S. taxpayer money should not be used for Israeli settlement projects and the U.S. should investigate if U.S. military aid violates the Leahy Law.
