IDF and Syrian Army exchange fire in Beqaa; heavy fighting between PLO factions, and between Lebanese Army and Palestinian forces of Col. Said Musa near Army's Baalbek base, Syrians intervene; IDF surrounds, occupies Phalangist barracks at Kfar Falus, east of Sidon, in effort to evict militiamen.

Casualties:

Casualties:

Prayers for those killed in the massacre held at a mass grave at Shatila; 4 more victims found; Lebanese authorities now estimate 600 killed; leftist political groups report homes, offices ransacked by Lebanese Army; Lebanese Army detains 3,000, deports about 300 mostly to Syria; hundreds of Palestinians flee Ein al-Hilweh after rumor that Haddad forces were coming; about 12,000 people have returned to Ein al-Hilweh since Israeli invasion.

IDF launches new attacks on West Beirut after accepting withdrawal plan "in principle" (jets bomb Burj al-Barajneh, Sabra, Shatila and near airport, attack Syrian missile positions in Bekaa; IDF artillery, gunboats continue to pound Palestinian areas); column of IDF tanks moving north of Jounieh toward Jubail.

Casualties: Inmates of Beirut asylum reported starving to death (27 removed by ICRC to safer institution); 46 killed, 89 wounded in IDF raids yesterday; today's raids result in 12 killed, 37 wounded; six truckloads of Red Cross medical supplies and food permitted to enter Beirut; some bakeries (for first time in 2 weeks) selling bread.
