Arab World: King Hussein denounces Camp David before Egyptian parliament; refuses to negotiate in place of PLO; calls for PLO role in peace talks [PI 12/3, NYT 12/3]. PLO announces move of formal PNC seat to Amman, PLO secretariat to Tunis, both from Damascus [JP 12/3].

Arab World: IDF soldier wounded in ambush near Sidon, S. Lebanon. In Nabatiya, S. Lebanon, grenade injures 14 in market; bomb explodes near IDF convoy, no casualties [JP 12/3].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Anniversary of UN decision to partition Palestine; International Day in Solidarity with the Palestinian People. 2 petrol bombs hurled at Israeli bus near Qalandiya camp; no injuries. Police use tear gas against stonethrowing demonstrators at al-Amari camp on Jerusalem-Ramallah road. Police stations in Bethlehem & Dura (al-Khalil) pelted with stones, as was Israeli minibus in Nablus.

Arab World: 17th PNC adjourns in Amman. Lebanese & Israelis meet in 6th session in Naquora; Lebanese level further accusations; Israelis present more conditions for pull-out; no progress.

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Nablus Chamber of Commerce submits memorandum to "civil administration" outlining city's urgent social and economic problems; no response from authorities. 19 Palestinians arrested for stone-throwing during MK Kahane's attempted entry into Umm al-Fahm (8/29). Israeli troops raid Qalandiya refugee camp, detain several youths suspected of commandeering bulldozer from nearby quarry and flattening Israeli-built barrier at camp entrance.

Arab World: Druze leaders meet in Majd al-Shams (Golan) to demand dismissal of 30 teachers accepting Israeli ID cards. Chrmn. Arafat meets with French FM Cheysson in Tunis.

Other Countries: Chrmn. Arafat cables Chrmn. Truong Chinh on occasion of Vietnam's nat'l. day. 2nd anniversary of Reagan Middle East peace initiative. US Navy announces Israel will lend 12 Kfir jets on no-cost 4-yr. lease for use in combat training; Israel Aircraft Ind. will maintain jets for "firm fixed price."

Arab World: Palestinian & Lebanese resistance detonate remote-control bomb as IDF patrol near Marjayoun, S. Lebanon, destroying jeep, wounding occupants.

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Families of 4 commandos killed by IDF (4/12/84), appeal to Supreme Court for release of full text of Zorea Commission report. IDF erects watchtower over Qalandiya refugee camp. Tens of thousands join Peace Now protest in Tel Aviv against continued Israeli occupation of Lebanon; state broadcasting authority bans TV coverage of protest. 5 new West Bank settlements approved [although roadwork for them began 4 mos. ago on expropriated Palestinian olive groves.] Higher Zoning Com. lifts construction ban on Shi'ab Kasseb area of al-Bireh. Delivered to Israel by Jordanian authorities, Samir Hilouh sentenced to 6 yrs. for membership in illegal organization.

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Sakhnin man Ibrahim Khalayleh arrested on charges of raising Palestinian flag on Land Day (3/30). FM Kimche denies Israeli arming of "Contras" in Nicaragua and says Israel not intending to get involved in Central America's military struggles; also says Israel cannot withdraw from Lebanon until certain of safe northern border. Hadashot reports DM Arens appoints team of inquiry into Israeli police killing of commandos (4/12/84).

Other Countries: Israel rejects invitation to conference on "The Question of Palestine" mandated by 28th General Assembly (12/13/83).

Military Action:

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Bombs planted by Israeli terrorists on 5 Jerusalem-Kalandiya buses discovered and defused by Israeli police; about 20 Orthodox Jewish "TNT" suspects arrested, including settler leaders and IDF reservists; news blackout imposed.

Social/Economic/Political:

Occupied Palestine/Israel: 21 women inmates begin new hunger strike to protest rights violations at Neve Terza prison.

Arab World: Gemayel announces plan to meet opposition representatives at Lausanne. Syrian cabinet resigns at Pres. Assad's request.

Other Countries: From Brussels, Spain's PM Felipe Gonzalez Marquez expresses interest in diplomatic relations with Israel, and hope it might contribute to peaceful solution in Middle East; reveals that, on recent visit to Riyadh, Saudi gov't. applied no pressure not to recognize Israel. US Federal Communications Commission rejects petition by "Americans for a Safe Israel" to deny license renewal of 7 NBC stations in New England for "distorting" news of Israeli invasion of Lebanon.

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Bullet-filled petrol bomb thrown at Israeli patrol near Ramallah; no injuries. Petrol bomb thrown at home of Kalandiya village mukhtar. 1 passenger slightly wounded on Egged bus stoned near Eizariya near Jerusalem.

Arab World: Lebanese man shot dead by IDF invaders, forcing way into Qana, S. Lebanon [HQ of Fijian UNIFIL battalion] amidst villager's protests. Israeli DM Arens inspects Sidon harbor area. IDF convoy carrying MK Sharon ambushed near Sidon; Sharon narrowly escapes injury as remote control device explodes.
