Occupied Palestine/Israel: In Burayj camp soldiers shoot, kill 17-year-old Palestinian; 15 Palestinians are injured by live ammunition; at least 70 are shot with rubber bullets. In Khan Yunis 3 Palestinians are shot; in Nusayrat 1 Palestinian is shot; in Beach camp 5 Palestinians are shot; in Balatah one Palestinian is shot; in Nablus one Palestinian is shot [FJ 9/25].

Jews from Teqoa settlement attack Bethlehem-area village of Za'tara after demonstration; settlers bulldoze walls, damage water pipes, and smash windows of houses and cars before troops intervene [FJ 3/20].

Other Countries: Pres. Reagan stresses that U.S. will not change or abandon peace proposals in talks with Israeli p.m. Shamir [CSM, WP 3/17]. Shamir suggests ceremonial opening for Arab-Israeli peace talks at U.S. -Soviet summit in Moscow [LAT 3/17].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Demonstrators in Tulkarm bum tires, block roads, and throw rocks at soldiers; troops respond with tear gas, rubber bullets, and live ammunition, killing 3 and wounding at least 12. Palestinian is shot dead in West Bank village of Ya'bad [WP 3/171. Violent clashes are also reported in Gaza Strip's Khan Yunis and Nusayrat camps, Bethlehem's Duhayshah camp, Jalazun camp, and Jib village, near Ramallah [NYT 3/17]. Other Countries: Congressional committee investigating Iran-contra affair releases testimony revealing Lt. Col. Oliver North had budgeted $2.5 million to finance secret U.S.-Israel operations [WP 2/26].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Military raids Qabatiyyah, arrests at least 100 villagers, destroys 2 houses [NYT 2/26]; village remains under curfew [FJ 2/28]. Israeli soldiers use tear gas, rubber bullets, and live ammunition to disperse stone-throwing demonstrators in Jenin; 1 Palestinian is killed, at least 4 wounded [WP 2/26; FJ 2/28]. In Nablus, Palestinian youth is shot dead by army gunfire; 4 others are wounded. Soldiers raid al-Ittihad Hospital in Nablus, beating patients and staff and breaking fumiture [WP 2/26]. Soldiers clash with Palestinian protesters in E. Jerusalem neighborhoods. At least 5 are wounded during clashes in Tulkarm, Balatah refugee camp, and Yatta village near Hebron [NYT 2/26]. Occupied Palestine/Israel: In Jerusalem news conference, team of U.S. physicians and psychiatrists reports on its survey of damage inflicted by army beatings, estimates more than 1,000 Palestinians have suffered broken bones and other injuries [WP 2/12]. Elderly man beaten by soldiers 2/8 in Nablus dies in hospital [NYT 2/13; FJ 2/14].

Other Countries: U.S. State Dept. announces Sec. of State George Shultz will visit Middle East to discuss reinvigorating peace process. Shultz meets with Arab Am. leaders, who express doubts about U.S. proposals [WP 2/13]. PLO officials in Athensay plan to sail ship of Palestinian deportees is being stalled because of Israeli pressure on government, shipowners, and crews [WP 2/12].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: In Tulkarm refugee camp, troops clash with residents, who believe settlers are attacking camp. Palestinian is shot, killed [FJ 2/14]. In village of Bita, south of Nablus, soldiers break into houses, beat residents, break furniture; 8 villagers are seriously wounded. At least 6 are hospitalized for army-inflicted beatings following raid of Tarqumiyyah village in Hebron district. Troops use tear gas to disperse crowd of demonstrators in Jerusalem's Old City. Curfews continue in Tulkarm, 'Anabta, Qalqiliyyah, Bayt Ummar, and Bayt 'Ur al-Tahta. In Gaza Strip, child is wounded by rubber bullet in Gaza City. Occupied Palestine/Israel: In Kafr Qaddum on the W. Bank, settlers whose van was stopped by roadblock open fire on Palestinian demonstrators, killing 1, wounding another [LAT, NYT 2/9]. At least 51 Palestinians have died and more than 800 been injured since uprising began 12/9 [WP 2/9]. Merchants observe 2-day commercial strike to mark beginning of uprising's 3d month [FJ 2/14]. In interview, Def. Min. Rabin opines diplomacy, not force, will end occupied territories diturbances, says forcing striking Palestinian merchants toopen will be lower priority [CSM 2/9]. Occupied Palestine/Israel: Burayj youth dies from severe beating by soldiers. Demonstration erupts during youth's funeral. Army responds with clubs, live ammunition, wounding at least 2. Camp is put under curfew [LAT 2/9]. In Nusayrat camp, residents attack soldiers with stones; soldiers use live ammunition when tear gas, rubber bullets fail to disperse crowd. Maj. Gen. Yitzhaq Mordechai orders release of "several dozen" accused of throwing rocks. In W. Bank city of Qalqiliyyah, troops open fire in effort to quell disturbances. Police raid 3 suburbs of E. Occupied Palestine/Israel: Palestinian guerrillas cross Lebanese border into Israel near Kibbutz Yiftah; 2 Israeli soldiers and 1 Palestinian fighter are killed; 2d Palestinian captured. PLO claims responsibility for attack [LAT 2/5]. In W. Bank, curfews continue in Nablus, old and new 'Askar camps, 'Ayn Bayt al-Ma' camp, Tulkarm, 'Anabta, Bani Na'im, and Balatah, Jalazun, and 'A'idah camps. In Yatta, near Hebron, youths force passengers off Israeli bus, set bus on fire. In Burqa, soldiers fire live ammunition at demonstrators, wounding 2. At least 12 are hospitalized for beating injuries in Gaza Strip [FJ 2/7]. After Israeli vehicles are stoned in Shu'fat refugee camp, military raids camp, beating and injuring many residents [FJ 2/7].

Other Countries: U.S. State Dept. announces Sec. of State Shultz will meet with al-Fajr editor Hanna Siniora and Gaza attorney Fayiz Abu Rahmah. Egypt's Pres. Husni Mubarak arrives in Washington for 3-day official visit. Elyakim Rubinstein, Israeli cabinet sec., holds talks with Charles Hill, aide to Sec. of State Shultz [NYT 1/27].

Military Action Occupied Palestine/Israel: Israeli troops open fire on demonstrators in Gaza Strip's Jenin refugee camp, wounding 1. Curfew on Jabalya is lifted but reimposed after crowds throw Molotov cocktails at Israeli patrol [WP 1/27; FJ 1/31]. In the West Bank, military imposes curfews on village of Qabatiyyah and Jenin camp following violent demonstrations. Curfews imposed on Tulkarm and Bayt 'Ur al-Tahta are lifted; military lifts curfew on Balata, declares camp closed military zone. Sa'ir village remains under siege and nearby village of al-Shuyukh is also blockaded. Occupied Palestine/Israel: Israel rejects UN resolution condemning planned deportation of 9 Palestinians from W. Bank and Gaza Strip [LAT 1/7]. Military welds shut 5 Jericho stores closed in observance of general strike [FJ 1/10].

Other Countries: Amnesty Intemational charges Israel with arresting Palestinians arbitrarily in W. Bank and Gaza and with quick military trials in violation of international standards [WP 1/7]. U.S. State Dept. denies U.S. vote against Israel in UN signals deterioration in U.S.-Israel relations [WP 1/7]. Occupied Palestine/Israel: Israeli soldiers break up rally at Balatta refugee camp with tear gas, rubber bullets, and live ammunition, wounding 4; impose curfew on camp. In response, demonstrators gather at alNajah University; Israeli troops injure 7 in attempt to disperse demonstration. University is ordered closed for one month [FJ 2/13]. Israeli army arrests members of 2 Palestinian cells in Tulkarm and Janin on suspicion of involvement in series of recent firebomb attacks [FJ 2/13].

Arab World: Amal officials accuse PLO of responsibility for Beirut car bomb which killed 15, wounded 80. Nearby battles between Palestinian forces and Amal for control of BurJ al-Barajinah and Shatila camps kill 4, wound 12. PLO blames Amal for food, medicine, and water shortages in camps [WP 2/10].
