Approximately 12,000 Palestinians gather along Gaza’s border to continue the Great March of Return protests. IDF troops violently disperse the protests near Rafah, Jabaliya refugee camp, al-Bureij refugee camp, Gaza City, and Khan Yunis; 3 Palestinians are killed and at least 3 more are injured. This brings the death toll stemming from the Great March of Return to 152. Amid the clashes, the IDF reports that one of its officers was injured by shrapnel from a pipe bomb thrown from across the border fence. Israeli forces subsequently shell 2 Hamas posts, causing damage to a school east of Khan Yunis. Elsewhere along Gaza’s border, Israeli forces conduct a limited incursion to level land along the border fence near Rafah. They also dismantle an IED that was placed along the border fence near Rafah for the 2d day in a row. On the other side of the border fence, Israeli firefighters put out 2 fires that were allegedly sparked by incendiary kite or balloon attacks emanating from Gaza. In the West Bank, Israeli forces set up roadblocks around Khan al-Ahmar, the Jerusalem-area Bedouin village slated for evacuation and demolition. Israeli troops later violently disperse hundreds of activists gathering to protest the roadblocks; 3 protesters are arrested. Separately, IDF troops violently disperse Palestinians and international solidarity activists at Friday protests against the Israeli occupation in Kafr Qaddum near Qalqilya and Ras Karkar near Ramallah; 1 Palestinian is injured. They also arrest 5 Palestinians during clashes sparked by IDF patrols in Bayt Umar near Hebron; arrest 2 more Palestinians during late-night raids in Nablus; and patrol in and around Hebron, Tulkarm, and Salfit. The New York Times reports that the Trump administration has decided to cut the last remaining $10 million in planned aid to the Palestinians this year. The money, which Congress authorized for expenditure in 2017, was set to support programs meant to build relationships between Israelis and Palestinians from the occupied Palestinian territories. USAID has reportedly redirected the $10 million to support similar programs dealing with Jewish Israelis and Palestinian citizens of Israel. “Essentially, USAID was faced with the choice of shutting down the program and losing the funds, or keeping something going,” a congressional aide explains. Off Gaza’s coast, Israeli naval forces open fire on Palestinian fishing boats near Jabaliya refugee camp, causing no damage or injuries (3 fishermen are arrested and their boat is confiscated). Along Gaza’s border, IDF troops dismantle an IED apparently placed along the border fence near Rafah by Palestinians in recent days. Late at night, unidentified Palestinians throw a pipe bomb at IDF troops stationed along the border fence, causing no damage or injuries. The Israeli soldiers fire at the perpetrators, injuring 1 Palestinian. In the West Bank, Israeli settlers slash the tires of 6 Palestinian vehicles in Jalud village near Nablus overnight and burn to the ground approximately 200 olive trees in a Palestinian grove near Bethlehem. Israeli forces confiscate 5 temporary residential structures that activists set up outside Khan al-Ahmar, the Jerusalem-area Bedouin village that is slated for evacuation and demolition. IDF troops arrest 1 Palestinian minor for possessing a knife in central Hebron; assault and arrest a Palestinian during a patrol in Artas village near Bethlehem; and patrol near Hebron, Tulkarm, and Qalqilya. The European Parliament passes a resolution denouncing the Israeli decision to evacuate and demolish the Jerusalem-area Bedouin village Khan al-Ahmar. The resolution also calls on Israel to provide compensation for the EU-funded infrastructure in the village. (HA, JP, TOI 9/13)

For an 11th consecutive day, Palestinians across Israel and the oPt gather to protest U.S. pres. Trump’s 12/6 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Israeli forces violently disperse them in Tulkarm, al-‘Arub refugee camp near Hebron, and along Gaza’s border near Jabaliya refugee camp and Gaza City; 5 Palestinians are injured. Meanwhile, Israeli forces raze 500 dunams (approximately 123 acres) of Palestinian land near Nablus and cut down dozens of Palestinian trees near Hebron. Israeli border police arrest a Palestinian carrying pipe bombs into an Israeli military court near Nablus. IDF troops arrest 11 Palestinians during late-night raids in and around Hebron, Ramallah, Qalqilya, and Bethlehem; and patrol near Tulkarm and Hebron. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers tour Haram al-Sharif in the morning. Meanwhile, Israeli aircraft spray herbicides on Palestinian agricultural fields along the border fence nr. Khan Yunis. In the West Bank, IDF troops raid 2 shops in Husan village nr. Bethlehem, confiscating construction materials and tools. They arrest 7 Palestinians during further raids nr. Ramallah, Hebron, and in Tulkarm, and patrol nr. Qalqilya and Hebron. Israeli forces demolish an agricultural road, 3 animal shelters, and 3 residential facilities nr. Jericho. Israeli forces demolish 9 Palestinian structures nr. Jericho. An IDF soldier is injured when a pipe bomb explodes nr. him on a road nr. Ramallah. It’s unclear who is responsible for the attack. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces arrest 5 Palestinians during late-night raids in Issawiyya. In Israel, Palestinian citizens of Israel travel in a convoy of around 200 vehicles from Qalanswa and Umm al-Hiran to the Knesset building in Jerusalem in protest against the recent home demolitions targeting their communities on 1/10 and 1/18. In the Jerusalem area, 2 Palestinians are killed in separate incidents. First, an Israeli settlement security guard shoots and kills a 13-year-old Palestinian outside the Anatot settlement after she allegedly attempts to stab him, and the IDF returns the youth’s body to her family. Another Palestinian youth is killed in Abu Dis when a pipe bomb he carries goes off accidentally. Some in the Israeli press claim that the youth was intending to throw the bomb at a nearby Israeli police base. Meanwhile, Israeli forces conduct raids and house searches in 3 areas nr. Hebron and Dahaysha r.c. nr. Bethlehem, arresting 5 Palestinians and issuing arrest summons to 4; patrol in 5 villages nr. Ramallah. They also patrol in Silwan, East Jerusalem, sparking clashes with stone-throwing Palestinian youths (1 Palestinian is injured and another is assaulted and arrested). In Gaza, a Hamas fighter dies in a tunnel collapse nr. Khan Yunis. Separately, unknown persons fire a rocket toward Israel; it lands short of the border, causing no damage or injuries. The Israeli crackdown on the ongoing wave of violence continues across the oPt. IDF troops clash with and violently disperse Palestinians protesting and throwing stones along Gaza’s border nr. al-Bureij r.c., w. of Tulkarm, in Bethlehem, in 3 villages nr. Hebron, ‘Askar r.c. nr. Nablus, and outside a settlement nr. Ramallah; 10 Palestinians are injured and 2 are arrested. The IDF also conducts late-night raids and house searches in al-Fawar r.c. and 3 villages nr. Hebron, ‘Askar r.c. nr. Nablus, and 2 villages each nr. Ramallah and Nablus, arresting 12 Palestinians and issuing an arrest summons to 1. Israeli forces arrest a Palestinian man armed with a knife and a pipe bomb at a gas station across the street from a checkpoint nr. Jenin. They indefinitely close the checkpoint after the arrest (they will reopen it on 11/5). IDF troops fire tear gas canisters into Palestinian homes in Aida r.c. nr. Bethlehem, causing damage and a number of minor injuries. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces close a checkpoint between Silwan and the Old City; raid a medical center in Issawiyya, issuing 1 Palestinian an interrogation summons and searching a number of files. The Israeli Civil Admin.’s Higher Planning Council gives preliminary approval of a 2014 master plan for a settlement bloc nr. Ramallah, which would include the construction of 2,200 new residences and the retroactive authorization of 2 settlement outposts. Overnight in the West Bank, IDF troops shoot and kill a Palestinian man during clashes in Jenin r.c. sparked by a pre-dawn raid. An IDF spokesperson says the man was shot because he was preparing to throw a pipe bomb at the soldiers. Meanwhile, IDF troops conduct raids in Jenin and 1 village nr. Hebron, arresting 3 Palestinians and issuing an arrest summons to 1; patrol in Tulkarm and 2 villages nr. Hebron during the day. Israeli forces demolish a residential tent and shut down a market in villages nr. Hebron. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolish a Palestinian-owned well, fence, small room, and several trees in Issawiyya; conduct late-night raids in Issawiyya, arresting 5 Palestinians. Following 2 days of talks in Amman, Palestinian, Israeli, and Jordanian activists and officials announce a 35-year Regional NGO Master Plan for Sustainable Development in the Jordan Valley to govern admin. of the Jordan River and pollution-combating efforts. (JP 6/11)

In the West Bank, IDF troops shoot and injure 2 Palestinian men after they throw a pipe bomb at an IDF site nr. Bethlehem, and the IDF consequently conducts raids in the area and temporarily closes a nearby road. Separately, IDF troops patrol in a village nr. Qalqilya, sparking minor clashes with stone-throwing Palestinian youths; 1 Palestinian is arrested and there are no serious injuries. IDF troops on a late-night arrest raid in Ramallah disperse stone-throwing Palestinian youths. The IDF conducts further raids and house searches in Tulkarm, 3 villages nr. Hebron, and 1 village each nr. Nablus and Bethlehem, arresting 6 Palestinians; patrols in al-Fawar r.c. and 1 village nr. Hebron, 2 villages nr. Jenin, and 1 village each nr. Jericho and Ramallah. IDF maj.-gen. Sami Turgeman, cmdr. of the IDF’s s. operations, says that the recent rockets fired from Gaza “are isolated incidents” and that the IDF will not launch “an operation in the Strip because of them.” He reaffirms that Israel holds Hamas responsible for all rockets from Gaza, but notes that it is making efforts to stop the small Salafist groups from launching the attacks. According to a senior Israeli official, China recently informed Israel that it will not allow any of its citizens to work on Israel’s West Bank settlements. The restriction comes in the context of bilateral trade negotiations, which Israeli finance min. Moshe Kahlon initiated to facilitate his broader push to expedite construction of housing across Israel. Kahlon is hoping to have thousands of foreign workers come, replacing the current system of private construction firms hiring foreign workers as needed, which has resulted in a series of labor law violations and international criticism. Since 2011, Israel has signed similar agreements with Thailand, Sri Lanka, Bulgaria, Moldova, and Romania, bringing more than 12,000 foreign workers to Israel. (HA, TOI 6/7; AFP 6/8)

IDF troops nr. Burin village s. of Nablus arrest 2 Palestinian men who approach them with knives. West Bank, a Palestinian dies at a checkpoint en route to work inside Israel, apparently caused by overcrowding. In Bethlehem, Palestinians throw a pipe bomb at Rachel’s Tomb, lightly injuring 1, while separately, Palestinians throw an improvised explosive device at a military base nr. Bethlehem, causing no damage or casualties. The IDF conducts house searches and arrest raids in Hebron and 1 nearby village, in Nablus and nearby Balata r.c., and in 1 village each nr. Israeli authorities publish plans for the construction of 272 new settlement homes in the West Bank, including the 1st ever master plan for Ofra, a settlement located 15 km (9 mi.) from the Green Line. Jenin and in Dahaysha r.c., Nablus, Ni‘lin Inside Israel, Hebrew University professor Ze’ev Sternhell, a prominent critic of Jewish settlements and the siege of Gaza, is lightly injured when suspected hardcore right-wing settlers throw a pipe bomb at him outside his Jerusalem home; police find posters in his neighborhood offering a reward of $320,000 to anyone who kills a member of Peace Now, an Israeli group that campaigns against settlements and of which Sternhell is a mbr. In the West Bank, the IDF makes an overnight raid on Nablus, reportedly uncovering an Islamic Jihad pipe bomb factory in the Old City, exchanging fire with Islamic Jihad mbrs., causing no reported injuries. Troops withdraw and then reenter Nablus before dawn, this time declaring the start of Operation Hot Winter— the largest military operation in the West Bank since 7/06 and the largest in Nablus in 3 yrs.—sealing the city, imposing a curfew, taking over TV and radio stations, conducting house-to-house searches, barring access to 2 hospitals, reportedly uncovering a 2d bomb-making factory and finding a LAU hand-held guided missile and launcher (either stolen from the IDF or purchased on the Israeli black market); 2 IDF soldiers, 6 Palestinians are wounded in exchanges of fire; an Associated Press photographer films IDF soldiers forcing a Palestinian man to act as a human shield, leading troops into Palestinian homes—a violation of international and Israeli law. In Israel, Israeli police raid 2 companies in Ramat Gan that do business with companies in Gaza, arresting several employees on suspicion of funneling money to Hamas, Islamic Jihad. Muhammad Bashir Akel, assassinating him and demolishing his home; surrounding the home of, attempting to arrest Bureij Islamic Jihad leader Jawad Shahin (not at home at the time), sparking a gun battle that kills Islamic Jihad mbr. Nur Abu Armana and 1 IDF soldier, wounds 7 IDF soldiers; demolishing Shahin’s home; killing a 3-yr.- old Palestinian girl and wounding at least 6 bystanders. Yaqub Sarayra in Bani Na`im, also killing a 2d Palestinian; fatally shoots 15-yr.-old Palestinian stone thrower in. Jenin. A mysterious explosion in Jabaliya kills 3 Palestinians. In Nablus, 10,000s of Palestinians attend the funeral of those in the 7/31 IDF attack in Nablus. Palestinians across Jerusalem, Gaza, the West Bank observe a general strike; marches are held in Jinin, Qalqilya, Ramallah, Tulkarm, refugee camps in Lebanon. Meanwhile, Israel continues to defend the assassination strike, saying it will carry out more such assaults if Israeli lives are at risk. Meanwhile, 1 Palestinian is killed in a severe clash with the IDF in Hebron.
