In the Ramallah area, 2 Palestinians are killed in separate incidents. First, IDF troops shoot and kill a Palestinian driver n. of Ramallah after he rams his car into a group of Israeli soldiers, injuring 2. Meanwhile, IDF troops set up a mobile checkpoint in a village nr. Elsewhere in the oPt, IDF troops violently clash with Palestinian, Israeli, and international activists at Friday demonstrations against the Israeli occupation in 6 areas nr. Ramallah (Bil‘in, Ni‘lin, Nabi Salih, Budrus, Jalazun r.c., and outside Ofer Prison), 2 areas nr. Qalqilya, 1 village nr. Hebron, 4 neighborhoods in East Jerusalem, and 4 areas along Gaza’s border; 36 Palestinians are injured (1 will succumb to his injures on 12/31). In the Jerusalem and Hebron areas, 2 Palestinians are killed in alleged ramming attacks. First, an Israeli settler shoots and kills a Palestinian driver nr. the Kefar Adumim settlement after he injures 2 Israeli soldiers with his car. While the Israeli media claims it was an intentional car-ramming, Palestinian sources report that the man was in a car accident with the settler driver. The victim’s brother was killed in a similar incident on 11/22.IDF troopsshoot and kill a Palestinian driver in Bayt Umar nr. Hebron after he rams a group of Israeli soldiers, injuring 5 of them. Afterward, the IDF seals the main entrance to the village. Israeli civilians assault a Palestinian worker in Beit Shemesh w. of Jerusalem, causing moderate injuries. The Israeli crackdown on protests in East Jerusalem continues as the Israeli authorities restrict Palestinians’ access to Haram al-Sharif; only men over 40 and women are permitted to enter the sanctuary. Meanwhile, Israeli forces clash with Palestinian protesters across the city for the 2d day in a row (nr. the Old City and in Jabal Mukabir, Silwan, Issawiyya, Shu‘fat r.c., al-Tur, Abu Dis, al-‘Izzariya, and Wadi al-Juz); at least 4 Israeli police and 4 Palestinians are injured, and 11 Palestinians are arrested. Hunger-striking Palestinian prisoner Allan is placed in a medically induced coma after his condition deteriorates. Later, Islamic Jihad’s military wing, Sarayat al-Quds Brigades, says that if Allan dies, they will not continue upholding the cease-fire with Israel. (HA, JP, MNA, NYT, YA 8/14)

The Arab Bank reaches a settlement in a case brought by hundreds of U.S. citizens accusing the bank of facilitating Hamas attacks in Israel. The terms of the settlement are not disclosed. A U.S. court ruled in 9/2014 that the Jordan-based Arab Bank was liable for knowingly supporting Hamas in its attacks. (TOI 8/14; JP 8/15)

PA Prisoners’ Affairs Comm. head Qaraqe says that the IDF prosecutor intends to request permission from the courts to begin forcefeeding Muhammad Allan, a Palestinian prisoner who has been on hunger strike since 6/16.
