In the West Bank, Israeli settlers set fire to olive trees in Burin. Israeli forces shot and injured 4 Palestinians with live ammunition and injured 9 others with shrapnel during a raid in Nur Shams refugee camp, Israeli bulldozers also razed streets and damaged electricity and sewage networks during the raid. Israeli forces also shot and injured 2 Palestinians, including a medic, during a raid in ‘Askar refugee camp. Elsewhere, Israeli forces demolished a house in Khirbet Humsa and a mobile home in Battir. 14 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Beita, Nablus, Bethlehem, al-Mughayyir, Beit Kahil, Beit Umar, Nur Shams refugee camp, Qatanna, and Shu’fat. Off the coast of Gaza, Israeli naval forces arrested 4 Palestinian fishermen and seized their boat around 3 nautical miles northwest of Gaza City. The Israeli Be’er Sheva Magistrate Court ruled that 500 Palestinians living in Ras Jrabah must demolish and leave their homes by March 2024 to make way for expansion of Dimona. The Palestinians will also have to pay $31,700 in legal fees. The residents of Ras Jrabah had requested that they remain in the area they have lived in since before the Nakba by being absorbed into Dimona, a request the court denied. PA foreign minister Riyad al-Maliki submitted a written statement to the ICJ regarding the Israeli occupation. (QDS, WAFA 7/24)

The Knesset passed the third and final reading of the bill that overturns the reasonableness standard, which has allowed the Israeli High Court of Justice to void government decisions that it deems unreasonable. The bill is a component of the Israeli government’s judicial overhaul plans. Israeli police used water cannons to disperse Israeli protesters outside of the Knesset and 1 Israeli man rammed 3 protesters with his car in Kfar Sava. More than 11,000 Israeli reserve soldiers said on 7/21 and 7/22 that they would not report for voluntary reserve duty if the law passed. The American Anthropological Association voted to adopt a boycott of Israeli academic institutions, citing discrimination against Palestinians. 71% of the votes cast between 6/15 and 7/14 were in favor of the pro-BDS vote. (MDW, MEE 7/24; WAFA 7/26)

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers assaulted Palestinians in Fasayil, injuring 1. Israeli forces raided Nablus and took measurements for a punitive demolition of a home belonging to the family of a Palestinian killed during an Israeli raid on Jenin on 3/7. Israeli forces also issued 15 stop-work orders for structures in al-Jiftlik and demolition orders for 4 homes and 1 agricultural structure in Idhna. Haaretz reported that the Israeli military had conducted a psychological warfare operation against Israelis during the 2021 Operation Guardian of the Wall to garner support among the Israeli public for the Israeli military’s attacks on Gaza. The military used the social media platforms Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to upload propaganda from fake profiles. The campaign was launched 2 days into Israel assault on Gaza, as Israeli military personnel feared they were losing public support. (AP, HA 3/22) 

The Jordanian parliament voted to recommend expelling the Israeli ambassador to the country in protest over Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich’s comments on 3/19 in Paris that the Palestinian people do not exist while standing in front of a map depicting Greater Israel, including all of Palestinian and Jordan. In the West Bank, Israeli forces shot and injured 1 Palestinian with live ammunition during a late-night raid in al-Bireh. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinians protesting a raid in Jalazun refugee camp, injuring 1 minor with a baton round. Elsewhere, Israeli forces demolished 1 Palestinian home under construction in Aqabat Jaber refugee camp. Israeli forces also demolished 1 Palestinian home and delivered a stop-work notice to another in al-Twana in the Masafer Yatta area. 15 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in al-Bireh, Silwad, ‘Askar refugee camp, Beita, Qabatiya, al-Arroub refugee camp, Hebron, al-Ubeidiya, Beitunia, Silwad, and Fasayil. In East Jerusalem, Israeli settlers raided Silwan, leading to a confrontation between Palestinians and Israeli police; 3 were injured by shrapnel from tear gas canisters and 2 were arrested. An Israeli public opinion poll conducted by Channel 12 found that 56% of Israelis are opposed to having a Palestinian party as a member of the Israeli government coalition, while 31% was found to be in favor. (HA 6/13)

The U.S. White House announced that president Joe Biden will visit Palestine, Israel, and Saudi Arabia on 7/13-7/16, after the trip was postponed. The trip was originally scheduled for June. During his trip, President Biden is scheduled to meet with PA president Mahmoud Abbas, Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett, and Saudi crown price Mohammed bin Salman. Iran’s Fars News reported that 1 employee at the Semnan Space Center was killed while on a mission. The reporting followed the death of an Iranian aerospace expert working for the Revolutionary Guard on 6/12. The initial reporting said the man was killed in a car accident. Several Iranians linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, nuclear, and missile programs have been killed or mysteriously died in the past weeks. The New York Times reported that Iranian officials believe that Israel poisoned 2 Iranian scientists who died earlier this month after falling ill in May. (AJ, HA, HA, NYT 6/13; HA 6/14)

In the West Bank, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Nabi Salih, killing 1 Palestinian using live ammunition. Israeli forces also raided al-Quds University campus in Abu Dis, firing tear gas; 17 Palestinians suffered from tear gas inhalation. Elsewhere, Israeli forces demolished a car repair shop in al-Lubban al-Sharqiya and 2 agricultural structures in Khirbat al-Fakhit. Israeli forces also demolished 1 house and 1 water tank and assaulted and arrested 1 elderly Palestinian man protesting the demolition. 18 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in al-Am‘ari refugee camp, ‘Arura, Sinjil, al-Eizariya, ‘Anata, Beit Sahour, Husan, Beit Fajjar, Hebron, Beit Umar, Jenin, ‘Askar refugee camp, and Kafr Qaddum; 1 Palestinian was injured during the raid in Hebron as Israeli forces fired stun grenades at Palestinians protesting the raid. The PA foreign ministry summoned Hungarian representative to Palestine Csaba Rada in order to complain that the Hungarian city of Hévíz has made a twinning agreement with the Samaria Regional Settlement Council, representing several settlements in the West Bank. (WAFA 2/15; MEMO 2/16)

The police in the Philippines said it had uncovered an attempt by Hamas to recruit local militants to commit attacks on Israelis in the country. The police claimed that a man named Fares al-Shikli had offered financial support in exchange for attacks on Israelis. (HA, JP 2/15; ALM 2/19)

According to Israel’s Channel 12 and the news outlet Globes, Morocco had signed an order to buy the Israel Aerospace Industries’ Barak MX Integrated Air and Defense system for more than $500 million. (HA 2/15)

In the West Bank, Israeli settlers raided Palestinian homes in Birin, causing damage. Israeli settlers also stopped 3 Palestine TV journalists while driving near Bittin, forcing them out of their car and beating them, causing bruising. Israeli forces shot and injured 1 Palestinian with live ammunition during a raid in Tubas. Israeli forces also violently dispersed Palestinian protesters in Burqa, causing tear-gas related injuries. Elsewhere, Israeli forces violently dispersed Palestinians throwing stones at a checkpoint near al-Arroub refugee camp, causing tear-gas related injuries. Israeli forces shot and killed 2 Israeli forces in a friendly fire incident in the Jordan Valley, believing the 2 were Palestinians. 9 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in ‘Askar refugee camp, Qabatiya, Qatanna, and Zeita. In East Jerusalem, 1 Palestinian demolished his own store under construction in Shu‘fat refugee camp. 2 Palestinians were arrested during late-night raids in Isawiya. Israeli Channel 13 News reported that Israeli foreign minister Yair Lapid met with PA intelligence chief Majed Faraj in the days after PA president Mahmoud Abbas met with Israeli defense minister Benny Gantz, at Gantz’s home on 12/28/2021. Members of the Jewish National Fund’s executive board called a meeting to gain clarification about why it had not been consulted about the forestation project in the Naqab that had led to large protests from Palestinians due to the displacement of Bedouins in the area. (HA 1/13)

The Citizen Lab said it had found NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware on dozens of phones belonging to Salvadorian journalists and human rights activists. The spokesperson of Salvadorian president Nayib Bukele said that El Salvador is not a client of NSO group. (AJ, AP, HA 1/13)

Hundreds of right-wing Jewish activists visit Joseph’s Tomb near Nablus overnight, sparking clashes between their IDF escort and Palestinian residents of the area; 20 Palestinians are lightly injured and 1 is arrested. Elsewhere in the West Bank, IDF troops injure 4 Palestinians during clashes sparked by an arrest raid in ‘Askar refugee camp near Nablus; arrest 6 Palestinians during additional raids near Hebron, Bethlehem, Tulkarm, and Jenin; and patrol near Nablus and Tulkarm. Israeli forces demolish the outer wall of a Palestinian cemetery and the foundation of a planned multi-purpose center near Jenin. Israeli settlers enter the grounds of Palestinian high school in Urif village near Nablus, throwing rocks and sparking minor confrontations with the students; there are no reported injuries or arrests. In East Jerusalem, Israeli forces demolish a 4-story Palestinian residential building in Shu‘fat refugee camp They also demolish a memorial to a Palestinian killed by Israeli forces on 7/21/17 in Abu Dis, sparking clashes with residents of the neighborhood; there are no injuries reported. Off Gaza’s southern coast, Egyptian naval forces shoot and kill a Palestinian fisherman. It’s unclear why they opened fire. (WAFA 11/7; MNA, TOI 11/8)

The organizing committee behind the Great March of Return announces that the protests will resume on 11/9 as planned, but that the demonstrations will be quieter and protesters again will stay away from the border fence, as they largely did during the protests on 11/2. Meanwhile, The Hamas-run Finance Ministry in Gaza pays partial salaries to civil servants across the region. The payment is reportedly made in connection with developments in the ongoing Egyptian effort to broker a de-escalation of violence. (HA 11/8)

After meeting with PA foreign minister Riyad al-Maliki in Brussels, Belgian foreign minister Didier Reynders tweets that Belgium is upgrading the status of the Palestinian mission in Brussels, a significant step toward recognition of the State of Palestine. The specific nature of the upgrade is unclear. Reynders and al-Maliki also sign a joint declaration affirming their intention to further develop bilateral relations in a variety of ways. The IDF cracks down on Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank, and several Palestinians are injured and 2 others are killed during the ensuing clashes. First, the IDF clashes with stone-throwers during a late-night raid in Qalandia r.c. nr. Ramallah, and 2 Palestinian drivers are killed after they allegedly attempt to ram Israeli forces amid the chaos; 4 Palestinians are injured, and 3 Israeli soldiers are lightly injured. Further clashes break out during IDF raids in Dahaysha r.c. nr. Bethlehem, injuring 10 Palestinians. Meanwhile, IDF troops conduct raids and house searches in Jenin r.c. and 1 village nearby, ‘Askar r.c. and 3 villages nr.
