[WP 8/10]. In an interview in al-Sharq al-Awsat PLO chairman Yasir Arafat refuses to state whether he supports Palestinian government-in-exile [NYT 8/10]. Arab World: Israeli Air Force bombers attack positions in S. Lebanon knocking out radio station used to broadcast PLO messages to the territories; 3 people are killed, 5 wounded. It was the 12th Israeli air raid into Lebanon this year; police estimate that over 60 people have been killed, 120 wounded [NYT 8/10]

Occupied Palestine/Israel: 67-year-old Palestinian-American dies from heart attack after Israeli troops order him to remove graffiti from neighborhood school and refuse to allow him to take heart medicine [WP 8/3]. In Jabalya demonstrations break out as Israelis lift curfew for an hour and a half; 28 Palestinians are injured [FJ 8/7]. In Khan Yunis 8 people are shot, 30 injured by tear gas [FJ 8/7]. Other Countries: New York Times reports Reagan administration officials have met with members of Congress and leaders of American-Jewish organizations to work out deal allowing Kuwait to buy U.S. arms [NYT 7/31]. In Peru authorities arrest 3 Palestinians, charge them with trying to make contact with Peruvian guerrillas [WP 7/31].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Four Israelis are found guilty of meeting with PLO representatives in Romania in 1986 [WP 6/3, NYT 6/3]. The Jerusalem Post reports that a group of former IDF senior officers and leading economists and academics is planning a campaign to convince the Israeli people of the need for territorial compromise [JP 6/2].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: 18-year-old Jewish seminary student is shot, killed by Palestinian teenage girl in Jerusalem park around 2:00 am [NYT 6/3]. There are scattered disturbances throughout the occupied territories [LAT 6/4]. Troops use tear gas and live bullets to break up the funeral of an 11-year-old boy killed in Tulkarm 6/1; clashes spread throughout the city. In 'Attil two women are shot and all males over 16 are rounded up for interrogation [FJ 6/5]. In Khan Yunis a Palestinian home is destroyed by authorities [FJ 615].

Occupied Palestine/Israel: General strike continues in occupied territories. Def. Min. Rabin threatens to introduce additional sanctions in W. Bank and Gaza Strip. Israeli authorities close Hebron National Bus Co. for 1 week for honoring strike. Palestinian American political activist Mubarak 'Awad is arrested in Jerusalem on charges of organizing an illegal demonstration [WP 3/17]. Israel cuts phone lines to W. Bank, Gaza Strip [NYT 3/17]. Jews from Teqoa settlement attack Bethlehem-area village of Za'tara after demonstration; settlers bulldoze walls, damage water pipes, and smash windows of houses and cars before troops intervene [FJ 3/20].

In nearby Bayt Fajjar, residents burn bus used to transport workers to Israel; at least 10 are wounded in clash between villagers and army. At least 1 is shot during demonstration in Halhul. In village of Jabal al-Mukabir, soldiers close off 2 roads after stone throwers attack Jewish houses. Police use military-delegated emergency powers to impose curfew on Jerusalem refugee camp after violent demonstrations in 4 E. Jerusalem neighborhoods [NYT, WP 2/8]. Violent demonstrations and clashes with police are reported in Jerusalem's Thuri quarter, 'Isawiyyah village, and nearby Silwan village.
